When I go about my day, I would say that less than 10% of the guys I see are attractive to me. Of course, I live in Palm Springs, where there are not as many people who meet my "type." In New York or LA or SF it might be 15%.

So, if I am not attracted to 85% of the men I see, am I really gay? What is your percentage?

Attractive to me is defined as being someone I would have some sexual contact with.

Depends where you're hanging.....

OK, if your workplace is a place of higher education and most of the men you will see in a day are in the age range of early 20s to early 30s, the percentage goes WAY up... at least as far as looks go. I would say perhaps as many as 20% of the guys I would "do" if I had the chance.... but the rule for faculty is "look don't touch." Frustration....

Depends on the city...and the scene. I go anywhere from 1-25%. Usually never more than 25%, though.

One day last summer, I was waiting for an escort to return to his apartment in Chelsea. He had gotten caught up in traffic and I decided to wait in a cafe with a seat near the sidewalk. I made up a game for myself, trying to find something attractive about each of the men that passed by. Now Chelsea has its share of good looking men but even here, it sometimes took a good deal of study to find something attractive about some of the passersby. I was able to do find something attractive in each one. I think the answer to this question is related to how hard you are willing to look and how horny you are to start out. I think I related the origin of this game on a post here previously so pardon my retelling.

ffdave and I are looking at the same guys, except for 'the bigger, the better' part. The upside of the 5% is the nice surprise when you find one. What would we do if everyone were eyecandy?

If I am in a room with a bunch of very masculine, muscular, possibly hairy, ruggedly handsome men in their 30s-40s (even early 50s) I am definitely attracted to the 100% of them.

As far as Brooklyn goes.. we do have some Gorgeous Hunks!

But "Thank The Gods" they're not all walking around at the same time down the same street! :D

IF my eyes are having a Good Day 5-10% at the most... That's usually when I have seen a couple of "Hunky Daddys" pushing their Kids stroller's!

I'm sure I've shared this before ... but I really believe that having hired some of the best looking escorts out there over the past 15 years, I have become much more discerning (perhaps even critical) about what I find attractive.

I spend a lot of time with my best friends who have a summer home at a clothing optional gay campground. They're always commenting about this hot guy or that hot hunk. And the vast majority of time I think to myself "really? ugh!"

Programmed

I would say its about 5% for me. The order I'm pretty much attracted to a guy at first site is as follows:

1. The body: the more muscular, the better.

2. The age range: its usually around 18-32.

3. Body hair: the smoother, the better.

4. The face.

After I get to know them...

5. Personality: pleasant, understanding, and usually not Type A personality

6. Dick size: the bigger, the better :)

I probably missed a few attributes, buts that's the bulk of it. I rarely find all these qualities in a guy, but the more, the better. I don't know why I'm wired this way, but that's what does it for me. That's why I put it at about 5%.

That's a pretty good answer. I like the "programmed" concept, because I do not understand the laws of attraction. We will go for the pretty hunk before we will go for the kind heart. I think men are biologically programmed to be promiscuous, and also biologically programmed to go for younger flesh, as that would be the more likely to be fertile. Except that we're after men, but it still holds. Look at what we like here, for the most part.

Programmed is right. A great deal of the brain is wired to process visual stimuli. The saying is when it comes to presenting food is that we eat with our eyes. I'd say the same is true when it comes to men.

You're describing, I think, the difference between the generalist and the expert. One who is well versed in a field sees things differently from one who is not. What comes with great familiarity is the difficulty in being surprised. Because I've read a lot, it's harder for a new book to hold me the way it would have twenty years ago. On the other hand, I tend to find things in a piece of writing folks who don't read don't miss.

For me and as per the above list:

1. The body: in trim shape HWP and somewhat muscular up to a point but not the more the better,

2. The age range: 25-49 and I would make an exception for a well-preserved 50ish,

3. Body hair, as much as nature intended, and prefer not the shaved body,

4. Face is somewhat important but certain features can win me over, mouth, lips, eyes etc.

In Montreal's Gay Village, I would say about 33% interest me somewhat, in Ottawa, 5%.

I find all sorts of people attractive, but not always at the same time. One day I am attracted primarily to redheads, another day to brunets; some days to older men and some days to younger; one day it's tall and skinny that moves me, another day it's big bears, etc. Some days almost every guy I see interests me, and other days I don't notice anyone. It has little to do with what's on the street and a lot to do with what's in my head at the moment.

I thought about my answer after I wrote this and probably should change this attribute to "the more defined, the better". I would prefer a Tommy Hansen, Nick Lachey, or Ryan Phillipe over a Zeb Atlas any day! There are a lot of good looking, younger, smooth, defined guys in my gym. Too bad most of them are straight (I think)!

I think location is the governing factor. Some areas of a city are a desert while others are a candy store.

For me, if they don't have great buns my interest wanes considerably.

The question is not what your criteria are, but the percentage of guys you see whom you want to have sexual contact with. I mean, you did quote the question before you didn't answer it! :)
