I keep thinking there is some place that I haven't been to and I am gonna walk in and find the man of my dreams;-)

But where is it?? Some of you guys have been around so tell me..Where are the great men..Men you want to love, commit to, live with, the soulmate you have been lookin for. Can we still find them in the Library, Supermarket, Home Depot (I never got that one tho:-) ) on this board..Where are you hiding??

I am curious..those of you in long term relationships..where did you meet??

Taking a sampling of my male couple acquaintances who are in long term relationships (over 5 years), here's where they've met:

1) Work

2) College

3) Playing sports together

4) Volunteering at an abused woman's shelter

5) The Bijou Theatre (an "adult" establishment in Chicago)

Love's gonna bite you in the ass (in the case of the Bijou, perhaps literally) when it's going to happen. It sounds cheesy but I believe it 100%.

P.S. Don't try the Home Depot -- there's plenty of gay guys there, but I usually only see couples working on homestead improvement. ;)

Trust me Godiva, it will happen. Do not look for it however. When you look for it then you will not find it. I believe that until you are happy with yourself that you will not find any type of a loving relationship with another man. Trust me, this will happen.

Dearest Godiva,

Perhaps I'm in a cynical mood, but I don't think this is the best crowd to answer that question.

I'm sure there are plenty of guys in long-term relationships on this site but I suspect that most of us use escort because we are not in a relationship.

Am I wrong?

Probably correct. Other than the married (to a woman) guys…you’ll probably find more escorts here with boyfriends than you will clients!

I agree with mmk. If you look all the time you will overlook the one. When I met my bf I was over men and I just got out of a long relationship with a girl. :9 I met my man through a friend and he was dating some guy. Of course when I see something I want I work really hard for it, till I get it. And I did. I wasn't going to let this one slip through my fingers. Now 2 years later LMAO we are still together.

I do believe that there is someone out there that is looking for you. I think that what it is somepeople get too distracted and don't realize that this one was the one and let them slide through their fingers. When you see an opportunity grab it. One thing I have learned is not to sit around on things. Now I just go out and get in the middle of it all. No I don't want to be the center of attention but I insert myself in the social circle to give me more opportunities.

Just 2cents, take it or leave it :-)

Adam

This site is probably populated with people who could quote Blanche Dubois from Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire":

"I depend on the kindness of strangers."

After my most recent relationship, I can easily quote Steve Martin from one of his plays:

"Love is a promise delivered already broken."

Posted

>"I depend on the kindness of strangers."

The correct quote is:

"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers"

Sorry to be a stickler, but it's one of my favorites.

Most of my friends have found their boyfriends while living life to the fullest. For example: [ol][li]One friend loves camping, hiking, and the outdoors. He found his BF in a mostly-straight hiking club.

[li]Another friend enjoys dancing. He found his BF in a straight dance company.

[li]I met my last BF while singing in an opera chorus.[/ol]My suggestion is not to put your life on-hold. Don't wait for a relationship to happen. Just do what you enjoy doing and in the process of living life, you'll find others who enjoy doing the same thing.

Adam, maybe you should list yourself as a top rather than as being versatile. :+

You are wrong. I use escorts because I AM in a relationship. If I were not, I would be looking for sex that contained the possibility of developing into an emotional relationship between equals. For me, an escort provides sex in a context which does not threaten my totally-satisfying-but-no-longer-sexual LTR.

By the way, I met my lover at a vacation resort where we both happened to be staying at the same hotel.

The perfect men are escorts. Why do you think we charge for the time you spend with us. We gotta make some kind money off of being Mr. Right! LOL I'm just kidding.............or am I?

I know you are kidding, but some of you guys (including your cute self) are indeed desirable and lovely. I envy those who can meet you before your upcoming birthday and your LTR partners are / will be very lucky. I guess I am reopening the bashing season right now...

Of my last 3 significant relationships, I met

1. one as a housemate of an acquaintance at a geek dinner (ba.motss). We were together for almost 3 years. He became clinically "paranoid psychotic" requiring medication and moved back in with his parents.

2. one at the gym I work out at, on christmas day. (We both have jewish parents.) He wasn't really looking for a primary full time boyfriend, and I was, so we were together until I found a better opportunity (1.5 years later). We're still fuck buds.

3. the most recent at the same gym. We've been together now for 4.25 years.

I play in a gay amateur musical organization; that's another place were people connect, although sometimes there's the "We're one big happy family, and with every happy family comes an incest taboo" syndrome. But heck, maybe one of your fellow choristers or bandies will have a roommate ....

Thanxs for all the additional places to meet men..What is funny is that the gym is still high on the list.

I am also curious to know how long does the average Gay relationship last?? and do we break up for the same reasons that heteros do??

Since my last disaster, I know where the story begins whether we win or lose and I choose to win.

I will have no more drama in my life and no more pain. No more tears...no more crying.

Thus, I am limiting my long-term gay relationships to one hour.

(many lines stolen from mary j. blige, but it's just the way i feel right now. tomorrow is another day..la-di-da.)

<I am also curious to know how long does the average Gay relationship last??>

I'm not sure what the average is but "gay" relationships are graded on a curve. I think the formula is 1 year together is equal to 7 in hetro years. So based on that formula you should celebrate your Silver Anniversary after being together for 3 years and 7 months!

Gold Anniversary after being together for 7 years and 2 months!

IMO,

It comes down to guys don't like to commit. In the gay world u don't have the "marriage papers". Compared to in the hetro world the woman nags the guy into marriage and then hes stuck until he decides to get a divorce, and how many people do you know that had a good divorce? I guess what I'm saying is the bottom line IMO is that gay guys don't have the same level of commitment (I'm thinking more finacial and kids here not just love) to each other and therfore it's easier to stray.

That interesting Kevin and thnxs for your opinion..I wonder tho if that would change if gay relationships were allowed to marry and attain papers across the board...

Where you meet *the man* can be anywhere, but the when I have found to be when you least expect it the most. Sounds like a contradiction, but it's not. On on level, a deeper one, we are always searching, ergo, the most. But on a day to day level we may be completely caught off guard due to the unexpected. All that's fine, but my question has always been - what if I have met him and was too busy to notice?

What qualities are you, or for that matter, do most gay men look for when searching for a "soul mate". Are youth, looks and other physical attributes high on the list? Maybe. this question should be on another thread. :)
