JRNOFEXPRS Posted May 14 Posted May 14 What piece of technology genuinely changed your daily life for the better? Not necessarily the most advanced thing. Just something that quietly improved your routine, mindset, creativity, or peace. For me, it was noise-canceling headphones. I suffer from pretty extreme tinnitus, so having the ability to soften outside noise and create a calmer atmosphere genuinely helped my focus, stress levels, and overall peace of mind.
nomad Posted Sunday at 10:45 PM Posted Sunday at 10:45 PM The microwave oven hands down the most impactful appliance that saved my starving student life in college. The air fryer is a close second nowadays. I use both nearly everyday. + Charlie 1
nomad Posted Sunday at 10:47 PM Posted Sunday at 10:47 PM I have also gotten to love using an electric kettle. Took it as a souvenir to remember a friend by when he passed and have learned why he used it so often now! + Charlie 1
RadioRob Posted Monday at 07:49 PM Posted Monday at 07:49 PM For me, it has been the advent of AI. Being able to look at large volumes of data in different ways has been very helpful. In addition using it to challenge ideas/assumptions has been useful. AI while it can hallucinate has been a helpful tool to make me consider things I might not have otherwise considered. It has become a tool that I can use to ideate and to explore topics.
+ purplekow Posted Monday at 08:27 PM Posted Monday at 08:27 PM In my lifetime, clearly the computer has been the biggest difference maker. Whether it is a smart phone or a laptop or desktop, I started using computer in 1980 although I do recall the punch cards of the early 1970s.

I had zero exposure to tech in high school (well … I remember one kid in my senior year had a TI SR10 calculator - ’73). When I moved to university it almost instantly became the centre of my career in one form or another right through to my final teaching stint. Confluence of timing and mindset I suppose. But the OP’s question looks to smaller, everyday, almost trivial things, so … Consumer sous-vide: use it almost every day - convenient, precise, stress-free Super-automatic coffee machine: good easy reliable coffee - the Jura gets used every day Internet: it’s terribly cliché and it’s not trivial but the world I live in now would be unthinkable to my 17 year old self. Books, movies, encyclopedias, maps, communication - all at my fingertips all the time. Science fiction.
