Luv2play Posted January 19 Posted January 19 He and his style certainly enjoyed longevity in the fashion business. From Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn through Jackie Kennedy to Julia Roberts and others, his dresses will go down in history as the best of the best.
BSR Posted January 20 Posted January 20 One of the greatest designers ever, Valentino was a legend. The fashion world has lost two Italian giants recently, Giorgio Armani last September and now Valentino. The two, each in his own way, built fashion empires before there was such a thing as a “fashion empire.” I have tremendous admiration for both. R.I.P. Monarchy79 1
+ Italiano Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Together with Versace, Armani, Prada, Zegna, Missoni, Gucci, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino created a trend that made Italy at the top of the world elegant fashion industry since the 1970s. Definitely Valentino was the most "classic" of them. Monarchy79 1
Peter Eater Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Great Valentino documentary: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176244/ Edited January 20 by Peter Eater Monarchy79 and Hu.Len 2
Hu.Len Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Valentino: The Last Emperor, the documentary Peter mentioned, but by the time it ended, I knew I'd recommend it to people like Peter did. Watching it felt like I’d been invited into one of the most fascinating creative minds, not just fashion wise. This film isn’t just about just fashion, they widened it. It’s was human portrait full of elegance, drama, and passion. What struck me most was the vulnerability of the person behind Valentino, he’s presented in moments of quiet doubt, joy, stubbornness, and full-on creative obsession. For those interested in fashion like I am, it's nice to see behind the curtain. rest in peace. Peter Eater and BSR 2
Monarchy79 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) Valentino can be considered the first of true Italian couturiers, as he was the first Italian Designer to show on Paris Runways. Personally, I’d put him up there with St.Laurent. The original powerhouses of Italian fashion are now gone : Valentino, Armani, Versace (and the one that many forget, Gianfranco Ferre) Valentino definitely left a legacy of elegance, style and true fashion. Luv2play Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I’ll say one thing though on looking back at one of his so called triumphs. That outfit he dressed Jackie Kennedy in to marry Aristotle Onassis was dreadful and her hair was awful too. Will not go down in history as one of his most elegant creations and in fact I think will be regarded as a failure. OTOH the creations he whipped up for real European royal weddings were classics.
jeezifonly Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Valentino designed for Women rather than sullen 15 year-old waifs. Monarchy79 1
