4crazyhorse Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I'm shocked that Detroit does not have strip club since the closing of the Gold Coast many years ago. BeHappy and + poolboy48220 2
+ poolboy48220 Posted December 10 Posted December 10 Totally agree. I was a regular at Gold Coast. I know there was a lot of hate dropped on it due to the shady neighborhood but I almost never had issues there.
+ Vegas_Millennial Posted December 10 Posted December 10 (edited) EVERY city needs a gay strip club. It should be a UN fundamental human right! Edited December 10 by Vegas_Millennial Spelling TorontoDrew and 56harrisond 2
EZEtoGRU Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I would agree that it would be great to have a male dancers club in Detroit. The Gold Coast lasted for many decades and there was a 10-20 year period where it was the best male strip club in the Midwest...including being better than anything in Chicago. Sadly, it started a long decline in around 2010. The last 5 years of its life were sad as the quality of the dancers dropped substantially. I blamed it on lousy ownership and poor management. It was doomed to failure with the crew that was running it.
TorontoDrew Posted Monday at 09:16 PM Posted Monday at 09:16 PM I spent about a year in Detroit for work about 30 years ago. There was a small strip club across the river in Windsor that I used to frequent. I fell in love with a young man who always danced to Mariah Carey's Hero. + Vegas_Millennial and EZEtoGRU 1 1

If it was the club right on the riverbank in the late 80's, it was JP's. Great club with worldclass strippers. Toronto and Montreal strippers used to cycle through there on the regular. It was wonderful. If it was later than that, it was probably The Happy Tap on Wyandotte in Windsor. Not nearly as good as JP's, but decent. TorontoDrew 1
handiacefailure Posted Tuesday at 02:17 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:17 AM I really miss the happy tap in Windsor where they took it all off. I remember going to the Gold Coast in college, a friend of mine loved the gas station and one time we went to the Gold Coast and he always called it the "troll coast" lol TorontoDrew 1
jeezifonly Posted Tuesday at 08:55 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:55 AM Is the city's renaissance boosting the gay population? Old-home renovations always draw us clever types for the bargain and challenge. In the late 1980's I worked in Detroit a couple of times, and guys I worked with would go to Windsor. Great (full-nude) gay strip club w full dance floor. RJ's? JR's? Women allowed in w/men, but could not get privates- definitely few there. Crowd mostly men, all ages, singles and groups, but lots of cozy dim nooks for table dances. Dancers each got a down to-g-string on-stage number, then a second for full monty. Between sets they mingled and headed to guys who asked when tipping their stage strip from the beer rail. Exchange rate was in locals' favor, they loved US cash. We loved that they loved it. Private dances had customer seated (at table w group, or solo) with dancer on a small platform so you were eye-to....uh, erm...eye. Socks held the tips. I did not spend as much as some colleagues. If LA had a similar venue, I probably would have eventually. Glad my timing was right over 40y in passing thru Windsor, NY, and SF to enjoy the live ecdysiasts of the day. Not the same on screen. + Vegas_Millennial and + azdr0710 2
+ poolboy48220 Posted Tuesday at 02:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:09 PM I never knew about JP's, but I was at The Happy Tap just about every Friday. 9/11 pretty much killed it when it was harder to cross the border from Detroit. It closed, reopened briefly a few years later, but never was the same, and shut down again pretty quickly. jeezifonly, BSR and EZEtoGRU 2 1
