riowanderer Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) FUN FILMING ERROR: In the early episode where Shane breaks IIya's new record for shooting target accuracy, IIya is clearly shown not wearing a helmet on the bench > but less than seconds after Shane sits down on his bench > next shot shows IIya magically wearing a helmet!:) Edited January 19 by riowanderer + Gar1eth 1
samhexum Posted January 19 Posted January 19 By the way, did you notice how much Ilya was shoveling in the spaghetti in the last scene with the parents? He even adds two spoonfuls of cheese to his plate during the scene, and he winds up playing almost the whole scene with food in his mouth. I saw an interview where he was asked if that was either in the script or a part of the characterization and he said no, I live in California, and we don't do a lot of carbs out there, so this was just me taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy something thing that I usually don't eat. And somebody pointed out to him that at one point when he's slurping in a large amount it almost looks like he's doing a little dance with his shoulders and he says it looks like I'm saying I love food! I love food! Becket 1
riowanderer Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Multiple interviewers have now asked Connor if his parents had watched the series and he shared that while his mom is his biggest supporter, his dad hadn't watched it "and I'm not asking him to see it...if he doesn't want to" So ok, since this question has been raised multiple times, I gotta ask > what kind of a father wouldn't watch his kid starring in one of the planet's hottest / buzziest streaming series right now, featuring a highly praised performance by his son?? IMO either his father relationship is estranged, or his dad's not exactly a major fan of a gay-themed series because a huge majority of dad's IMO would proudly watch their talented kid achieve well-deserved global fame even if they weren't on the best of terms Edited January 19 by riowanderer
+ purplekow Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I do not know if most American fathers would want to see their son going down on another man on TV. And truth be told, if you edit out the sex scenes for Dad, there really is not that much cohesion to the story. So despite his son playing a bisexual, I think many men would prefer not to see it on film. samhexum 1
samhexum Posted January 20 Posted January 20 When they finally fuck... I know Ilya's supposed to have lightning fast hands but after Shane pulls the condoms out of the drawer, is one actually used? It doesn't seem like it. Btw, I love the song that plays as Shane is deflowered. When Rose asks "Did you not notice Miles is gay?" I thought it was very kind of her not to add "when he danced with us and was right up against you." Since Scott knows about them (the only fight Shane's ever gotten into was after he trash-talked and Scott said you're starting to sound like him) will season 2 feature a 4 way, in which case, will Ilya fuck all three and will Shane be fucked by all three (and will they use condoms)? (cue the soundtrack: this... is... not... enough) Do you think there was a particular purpose to Ilya and Scott both being 12 when they lost parents?
Becket Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I can't wait to watch the whole thing. I've had to be satisfied with what you tube shows because I am too cheap to buy Crave or HBO max. At least at the moment. Hoping it will be on regular HBO soon. Otherwise I'm gonna have to spring for it.

Either case, it's acting. I wish Connor's agent would get in front of these unnecessary questions about Connor's personal life. The one vlog I listened to explained the parents were more interested in the emotional honesty and the professional opportunity the role represents.

The one vlog I listened to explained the parents were more interested in the emotional honesty and the professional opportunity the role represents. Interviewers simply asking if parents have watched an actor's movie or series is typically a softball question which wouldn't typically be off-limits for studios, publicists and agents involved in media marketing activities. Connor is certainly under NO obligation to discuss his private family business any further than the answer he provided, nor has any interviewer inappropriately asked him to do so. Bottom-line: most truly supportive dads WOULD be watching at least parts of their son's widely acclaimed performance starring in one of the globe's hottest, most popular new streaming series, even if not necessarily a fan of his specific character, storyline, or sexxy-time scenes involved. By contrast, Connor described his mom as "my number #1 supporter" who has watched the series with great pride, while understandably as a mom "fast forwarding" through the more explicit sex scenes. None of us have the right either to expect a more in-depth answer from him, but it hardly precludes some fans from wondering what's up with his dad choosing to not watch even a few of his son's best fully-clothed standout acting scenes!:) Edited January 20 by riowanderer

(cue the soundtrack: this... is... not... enough) I thought I had read interviews where Francois Arnaud said his character doesn't know about Ilya and Shane. Plus in Episode #6 Ilya says he talked to Scott -I think to tell him how brave he thought Scott was. And Ilya didn't indicate that Scott made any mention of him and Shane. Ok I succumbed and read 'Heated Rivalry.' There are definitely differences between the book and the series. But there almost always are in broadcast adaptations of books. For example in one scene in one of the episodes Ilya says something about having made Shane cum hands-free. I don't actually remember that being remarked upon at the time in the television series although perhaps it was alluded to in one of the sex scenes, but I didn't catch it. Or in the book Shane does drive a Jeep Cherokee not something British. I wonder if some of the differences/deletions weren't originally there but ended up that way because of editing decisions. On the whole there are things I thought were better done -or at least explained better in the book, and some that were better in the series. One scene that was a definite plus in the series was the scene in Episode 6 between Shane and his mother. It's not from the book. But it was so heartrending. I get choked up seeing it even though I've watched the episode at least 4 to 5 times. Edited January 20 by Gar1eth

I don't actually remember that being remarked upon episode two... on the stairs after they fuck when they talk about the Olympics

Men of a certain age grew up never even discussing sex, much less watching it on streaming with his son as the star. But come on, Dad, you can just fast-forward past the sex and watch your son in his first big success, one that will likely launch his career from obscurity to stardom. I don’t have a son, but if I did and he rocketed to success like Storrie has, I’d watch Heated Rivals the nanosecond it hit HBO, then watch it again and again out of pride for what my kid achieved. samhexum 1
d.anders Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Most young female porn actors get asked about their parents watching. I don't think most young actors who do nude sex scenes are in a hurry to share the work with their parents. I couldn't imagine asking my father to watch me simulate a gay blow job on national TV. A straight father would have to be incredibly cool to deal with such a thing, and most dad's are not cool, especially ones living in Texas, assuming that's where he's from. I don't have any specific numbers, but I assume most straight men have no interest in this show. Hell, I know a few gays who have not seen it yet, and they can afford HBO. samhexum 1

The issue for me here is not being loving, proud, supportive, open-minded enough to watch EVEN a few fantastic ACTING scenes starring your widely acclaimed & deservedly praised SON in a 5+ hour long streamer which is rocking most of the planet! So let me state aloud the frickin' obvious most likely "possible" reasons here folks: 1/ deep estrangement from his divorced dad 2/ major subject matter moral disapproval by his dad who "may" be a homophobe > Bottom-line: MOST truly proud, supporting & loving dads would've at least watched even a few FULLY CLOTHED fantastic scenes among the MANY non-nude ones, without their super-achieving kid needing to actually ask them: "PLEASE watch my breakthrough major global smash-hit series Dadddy...it would really mean ALOT to me!!" In the actual book "Heated Rivalry," Shane is definitely not a milquetoast bottom totally acquiescing to Ilya's desires. He is often a very dominant bottom during the initiation, foreplay, and consummation of their intimate time . I don't see it quite as much in the broadcast series. But he's def not a pushover there either.
