My friends and associates always are puzzled by my hotel choices. While I can afford to stay anywhere, if it’s just me I generally choose Courtyard by Marriott or Hilton Garden Inns for business or “liaison” purposes. When in Europe I usually do really nice Airbnbs or more upscale Marriott properties, like Luc in Berlin. If I’m traveling solo I just don’t see the point in spending $700+ to stay in a luxury resort with all the fawning and amenity fees. I attribute this to some distant Mennonite ancestry!

I cannot afford to stay anywhere, certainly not an Aman or even a Four Seasons, although I did treat myself once to the FS in San Francisco, only because they were offering a surprisingly affordable weekend rate.

Because I wanted access to a kitchen, I am staying at Airbnbs during this slow travel trip to the 4 cities of the Old Empire (Madrid, Buenos Aires, Havana; I stayed with family in Manila, obviously).  But before I started staying at Airbnbs, I used to get hotels thru Priceline.  I got some great deals and was never disappointed.  Priceline gave me the chance to stay at semi-posh hotels that would otherwise have been beyond my budget.

Clothing optional for every guest is like going to a nudist beach. Some bodies must always be covered!

Then, buddy, you need to look away as I am uncovering my fat ass and getting in the pool! In that regard my choices would be Desert Paradise Palm Springs or Arizona Sunburst in Phoenix.

Based solely on hotels at which I’ve actually stayed The Peninsula Chicago or Four Seasons Las Vegas. Otherwise I am pretty much a Hampton Inn or Courtyard by Marriott man. Easy for providers to get in and out plus the front desk folks don’t ask any questions.

One thing I love about the Four Seasons in Las Vegas is the quiet.  Perhaps because I’ve spent so much time in casinos, I kinda forget how noisy they are.  I am nonetheless aware of how much stress that high decibel level causes.  But when you leave the racket of the Mandalay Bay casino and enter the beautiful silence of the Four Seasons, you feel the stress whoosh out of your body … almost feels like a drug.

Any hotel for men only with a clothing optional pool

Sadly, two of my favorites are now but a memory … Blue Moon (Las Vegas) and Royal Villas (Phoenix). Naked men swimming, sunning and socializing.
