She was brilliant at doing exactly that in her episodes on "Mom." Her zingers were a high point for me in that very well-written sitcom.

I absolutely ADORED her two appearances and wished she'd been in more.  BTW, I once saw "Gregory" (her son) in a pizzeria around the corner from my then-apartment.

Before he put on all the weight? He definitely didn't have a "tiny tush" as Gregory.

Yes, this was after he (THANK GOD) killed Kellie Martin on ER and before NUMBERS.  I moved out of that apartment just over 22 years ago and I'd lived there for six years.

One can dream.

Cast Candace Bergen in some kind of scenario, and convince Bette Midler to do a cameo guest star role.  I love both of them.  Bette Midler could tell some great brassiere jokes, sing, anything!

I know, not likely, but fun to think about.

Maybe one of the Broadway divas will be in Season 2 either in lead or supporting role... Patti LuPone, maybe?  The fabulous Donna Murphy... is Carol Channing still alive?

Saw all except the last episode.  I thought the little religious song between Matt Bomer and the Mormon man from Fire Island was very pretty.  I wonder if Matt can really sing... or the other one (Zane Phillips?)

Patti LuPone is sassy enough to carry it off but they would need to find a way to write her in somehow

She died in 2019, in Rancho Mirage. They could visit her grave site.

Matt Bomer seems to love to sing. There are plenty of samples on YouTube. Apparently, he did a guest spot on Glee.

Here a cute little gay party over at Drew's house. Drew seems to relish her gays. Matt Bomer gets quite the welcome kiss. If I were Mike White, I would find a fun character for Drew to play. None of her daytime competition can do what she does.

Here's an interesting insider look at the set of Mid-Century Modern. I think Architectural Digest did a good job.

Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham recently joined Max Mutchnick and David Kohan on stage at the 92nd Street Y for conversation. The recording was released a few days ago on YouTube:

Since the beginning of COVID, we binge-watched Golden Girls, Frasier, Mary Tyler Moore, Friends, and a few other live-audience sitcoms, and for me, the format is one I just can’t get into anymore. Expert writing and brilliant casting can overcome my hesitation, and both on MCM seem to fall short compared to older shows. And why must it feel like everyone on the show lives in NY, not in the desert?  I hope it gets a second season for those loving it!

Agreed! I watched two episodes of MCM and couldn’t get into it. I fell asleep during the second episode. I thought the show was trying too hard to get those laughs in every minute.

scrolled thru my Hulu main page for something to watch during dinner this evening.....saw MCM on the suggestion page and, spurred on by having seen this thread, gave it a try.....S1E1......dinner lasted about twenty minutes and so did my association with this show......admittedly, I 'LOL'd a couple times, but the general silliness and stereotyping just made me feel like a few extra brain cells were lost during those twenty minutes......yeah, I could've just kicked back and vegged out with a somewhat-funny insipid comedy, but wasn't feeling it......I dunno, the studio audience laughed a little too loud and easily, the Nathan Lee Graham character's mannerisms got old very fast, Linda Lavin's Jewish Mother schtick was annoying.......so call me a cynical bastard.......

Maybe not enough board members have seen it yet, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Nathan Lane's refusal to do nudity. How weird was it to see Nathan Lane wearing a t-shirt in all the hot-tub scenes? Who among us would do that? (I'm going to ask in The Lounge.)

I remember listening to Nathan do an interview many, many years ago, where he said he would never take off his clothes for a role. Seeing him in the hot-tub scenes reminded me of that interview. He definitely does not want to be seen in public shirtless. How bad could it be?

I just realized this was by the same team who did Will & Grace.

It makes sense:  Old, tired jokes.  Worn cliches.  Hammy performances.

The writing?  It's like a gay Shecky Greene...  All they need is a rimshot.

Mat Mutchnick, who is gay and married, plus David Kohan, who is straight and also married. Both families have 2 kids. It's a very interesting writing/producing team.

It's far from perfect, for sure. But I'll take "a gay Shecky Greene" over watching the news any day. The 3 guys seem to have good chemistry, and some of the lines and deliveries kick a punch. It's very difficult to find biting humor these days. Very difficult. Is there another Norman Lear coming up in Hollywood? Would America tolerate it now?

Lear, not exactly, but edgy comedy is nowhere near dead if you explore the many streaming options.

Some of my favorites:

Your Friends & Neighbors - AppleTV

Hacks- HBO

Curb Your Enthusiasm - HBO (not on anymore, but ran until just last year)

The Studio- AppleTV

The Righteous Gemstones- HBO

The Boys- Amazon Prime
