I'm curious as to how providers feel about clients requesting roleplay. I personally enjoy specific scenarios to set the scene and progress to sex. Without it I feel like I just walking into a room and saying "Hi, I'm here for sex" and the whole thing feels very transactional. I realize that is my thinking and the provider may not feel that way at all. One of the reasons I like to start off with a massage is because it is a starting point for play. I don't think my roleplay ideas are out of the norm at all but often wonder if the provider is thinking "oh brother, here we go" as I describe what I'm looking for.

Hope this makes sense.

Depends how complicated and demanding the role play is. If I’m given a script with detailed instructions and it feels like I have to be aiming for an Oscar nomination then….sorry but I’m not able to do that. If it’s more of a general ‘could you play along with this kind of vibe’ then that’s fine and it is often quite fun.

I agree with you that massage is a great way in. I think it need not be considered as just the starting point though; it can be the whole theme of the session, whatever sexual activity is involved.

Just have a conversation before meeting and discuss you role-play or fetish desires. In almost all cases, discussing this beforehand makes for a great session. Just met with a surprisingly hot and intuitive 24 yo and had such a great and erotic time that our next meet-up will be an overnight. He played the role enthusiastically.

I'm thinking that an actual conversation is better then texting back-n-forth. I don't think what I have in mind is too detailed but one never knows so as you say discuss in advance.  Who knows he may have some ideas in mind that I never thought of.

I'm assuming you're looking more for of an escort session than a massage provider.  RentMen conveniently has a "Into" option where providers can indicate that role play is an option, and it's easy to search on that so you can identify some guys to contact first.

As far as requesting it, I agree with @Jamie21 that it is probably best to keep the scene relatively simple.  You can message them and say simply that "I am interested in a roleplaying scene that starts with a massage and transitions to an X type scene, can you do that?"  They may agree readily, or suggest a discussion in advance, depending on what you're asking for.

Also, if your roleplay scene involves gear, props, or anything that may require advance preparation, you definitely want let them know, so they can tell you if it's possible or not.

My regulars know I enjoy undergear/ jockstraps. Recently, purchased a few cute outfits - sailor costume, gladiator with harness, sexy elf, and butler uniforms that my regulars love to dress up in after we shower before heading to the bedroom for some massage action and play. They have fun picking out a coordinating jockstrap or some lace up underwear that I find sexy.

Depends on what kind of role play and how much acting is required.
