I admire his ballsiness in wearing that Speedo even if it’s artificial. I can just imagine what must have gone through the actors mind when he was told that he would be wearing that on national tv.

Clearly the advertiser wanted to cast someone who wasn't so unattractive that most viewers would be repulsed but not so attractive that he would be recognized by most as a sex symbol.  They did a good job.  I wouldn't hire him as an escort because one can certainly find more attractive men in that line of work, but I don't think he's unattractive.
