A Tesla driver slammed into another motorist as he swatted away a bug that flew into his car in New Jersey, cops said Monday. 

The 19-year-old driver, from Washington Township, was going east on Route 57 near Nikitin Way in Hackettstown just before 2 p.m. Sunday when an insect started flying around his face, police said. 

The driver tried to swat it away — causing him to lose control of his car and rear-end a 2017 Honda, with a 19-year-old woman behind the wheel, cops said.

That car then struck a guardrail. The driver, also from Washington Township, was not hurt, police said.

The Tesla driver had non-life-threatening injuries, and refused medical attention. 

But officers didn’t let his mistake fly — he was slapped with a summons for careless driving.

What can I say?  I just love a good 'meet-cute'.

Although, of course, it's not as good as when Isaac accidentally shot and killed Nigel whilst ogling him through the scope on his rifle.  Now they can be together forever!

Press Release (6/12/23): Motor Vehicle Crash
On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 1:57 p.m., Hackettstown police responded to Route 57 near Nikitin way for a motor vehicle crash. Through an investigation it was determined that a 2014 Tesla, driven by a 19-year-old male from Washington Township, NJ (Morris County), was travelling eastbound on Route 57 when a bug started flying around his face. When the driver attempted to swat the bug away, it caused him to lose control of his vehicle and rear-end a 2017 Honda, driven by a 19-year-old female from Washington Township, NJ (Warren County). The impact then caused the Honda to crash into a guardrail. The male suffered non-life-threatening injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.  The male was issued a summons for careless driving. Assisting at the scene was the Independence First Aid Squad.
Here are some tips of what to do if a bug flies into your car while driving:
•Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. If you’re in heavy traffic, fight the urge to swat the insect away, you could swerve and put other drivers at risk.
•Slow down gradually. Don’t slam on the brakes. Consider putting your hazard lights on to alert other drivers that you’ll be going below the speed limit.
•If you can, pull over. Once you’ve come to a complete stop, go ahead and give your complete attention to shooing the bug out of your car.

I had no idea what a "meet cute" was until I saw this post.  But I agree.  I could see some Rom Com being built around that scene.
