He can’t be bothered to reply to me to tell me that our meeting in NYC was canceled. I had to find out from here what happened. I had seen him several times before, in Paris and NYC. Indeed tech and info flow now make it almost impossible to be anonymous. I went to Hong Kong last month. First time in decades. Never talked to a single human being on entry. Your face and eyes are scanned automatically. Your passport is then auto-scanned and checked that it matches all the info the airline had to submit pre-arrival. One can only imagine what other big brother checks then happen. The entry gate either opens with a green light and you are in, or a yellow light flashes and you are directed elsewhere. RM themselves can add an expiry feature for photos shared with private chat, like Grindr and other platforms have adopted now. Or at most, just text the provider via WhatsApp and get the photo that way. Foreign RM providers coming to North America makes up only a small percentage of the overall industry.

The inconvenience to you is infinitely smaller than to him as his livelihood depends on his travel it would appear. Try to put yourself in the other person’s situation.
