Anyone else think rentmasseur seems too cluttered with dudes really looking to offer more escort services instead of actual massage? Not sure about you guys but the second I see "ask" listed under rates I pass.

I agree, but you shouldn't pass.  Give others the benefit of the doubt.  It's not fair when one does they think all do it....

In my experience, as a masseur, clients want a great massage AND the extras. The rate I charge is too much for a massage that doesn’t include any kind of release. Once you’re doing that then there’s not a big difference between that and escorting, it’s simply degrees of different activity.

I think if clients want only a massage then RentMasseur is not the place to be looking. But of course you need to be wary of the guys on there who haven’t got a clue about how to do a massage!

That's what I mean. It seems to me as soon as a see "ask" they are fishing for details about me to see what they want to charge. If they are an actual knowledgeable masseur they have a listed rate.

I base my choice more on training and experience than on appearances. I choose to have even a legit massage done by a man in a more casual environment than a spa providing similar level of bodywork, which has overhead, and people!!! , and charges more. I personally do not benefit from Thai style, which is the more affordable spa service in LA.

if I am envisioning an encounter that involves certainty about my climax, I know that it’s better to find guys who do both massage and escort, and I book a session for the latter, with massage-ish elements. I keep expectations low and have rarely been disappointed. We’re only compensating them for their time, after all.

RentMasseur has the greatest range of guys from 100% escort to 100% massage and everything in between. You can get a great therapeutic massage on there, but it’s a smaller number of guys. Guys on RentMasseur have a wide range of massage skill levels.

Agree with @MassageMePlease you shouldn’t have to guess at a basic massage rate. I tend to pass on those as well because it usually means escort rates with little to no skilled massage on offer, but not always. Nothing wrong with asking for a rate though. If they quote you rates conditional on information they ask about you, move on. They’re likely not very good.

Agree with @Jamie21 most clients want *some* level of sexual fulfillment, whether that be seeing and/or touching the masseur’s naked body, to receiving a HE, and beyond. A minority of my clients are 100% strictly therapeutic. Clients at least want an attractive guy to interact with. How far it goes past that depends on the masseur.

My massage rate includes activities like fellatio, rim, kiss etc. Clients ask for these things and I tell them it’s included in the rate. Ok so some activities are extra but not things like those I mentioned. I think many masseurs would consider those activities are more escort type work which I think is a fair point. I don’t think there’s a clear delineation.

It varies from masseur to masseur of course, but many -I would argue most masseurs- in the US consider all of these extras territory that they either charge for explicitly or expect a hefty tip for providing. They might call it ‘escort’ service or avoid the term altogether. Full service penetration is obviously an escort service.

IMO anything above HE is escort work, or an optional extra “freebie” the masseur should or otherwise would charge for. It’s a gray area. Lots of wiggle room among masseurs on how they draw their lines. Some consider even a HE to be an escort service, but that’s a minority opinion.

I prefer to hire certified masseurs first so I know I'm getting a legit massage. Through the years, I've come to appreciate the art of massage more and the curiosity aspect of what the masseur will do (my preference nowadays is a mix  of strong massage technique and sensuality here and there throughout the massage.)

If the rate is ASK, I've been inclined to pass.

However a favorite provider recently updated his profile rate to ASK, though he didn't change his rates.  He gives a top rate, skilled massage service and is a sweet guy.

I may think twice from now on before deciding to pass on profiles with an ASK rate.

I agree. There’s no harm in asking. Don’t let that scare you away. My first gut reaction is to pass on “ASK” rates as well because the chances of the guy being a good fit for my particular needs and budget is lower, but you never know!

It only takes a few seconds to ask. Worst case is he quotes something you’re not comfortable with and you politely pass and move on. Very little time or effort lost.

Still, I feel the best approach is to post regular massage rates publicly. If he has any other rates for “more than massage” it’s perfectly fair to share and discuss those privately.
