Dr. Charles Silverstein has died.

I read his obituary today and was reminded of his prominent role in having being gay no longer considered a mental disorder by the APA in 1973. That original decision was further modified in later years. He founded the Institute for Human Identity and co-wrote The Joy of Gay Sex in 1977. He wrote other books including about his own life experience and a later revision of Joy in light of AIDs.

He also wrote A Family Matter: A Parent's Guide to Homosexuality. He was definitely one of the giants in gay liberation. He died in NY on Jan. 30 at the age of 87.

I remember when ABC adapted the book into a series, with some slight changes.

I didn't know about Dr. Silverstein. Did he do that?
