That's because it's very old naive guys who don't have the patience or the knowledge to navigate tube sites to get the same content for free. Also OF gives the sense of having a connection with the provider. There are guys you lust for and would do anything to see the package or them engaging in an activity you normally don't see on their sanitized social media channels. Instagram usually is the starting point, you will see shirtless pics there, Twitter is the tease and if you want to see the full carnal pleasures, you have to pay for it on OF. I just wait till it leaks, stream, sometimes jerk off to it, and move on.

And what about recognizing the hard work invested by so many independent creators by paying the monthly fee? I pay with pleasure ten bucks for Rhyheim's OF.

OnlyFans only keeps 20% of revenue from subscriptions, ppv's , everything. That's much better than the chat sites that keep 50% and why chatters try to move fans to OF (very hard to do). There's plenty of social media management companies that take a cut to manage these guys and I'm not sure what their fee is but they're worth it.  

The "work" is not making content but knowing how to spread yourself across social media like Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, etc and get as many followers on each site in several accounts. Friends I know who do OF and also have management agents tell me the routine is to get 100K followers on social media sites total and then funnel 1K of those into subscribers on OF. At $10/month that becomes a steady $10K/month side income (OF takes 20% but you also get tips). There's management agent fees but the extra income from even short $10 3-minute videos makes that up.

The best-looking and sexiest guys I know were never very good at OF. They didn't pay an agency and did not know how to promote themselves to get followers and turn them to subscribers. The vids they did were great but no one ever saw them. It's all about publicizing yourself. (I do know some guys who promoted themselves like agents do and did a decent job getting followers and making them subscribers.  

Of course the most-publicized guys are the porn stars who already have a zillion followers. But the irony is their sex scenes are free all over the internet or $10/mo unlimited from studios. Yet they still seem to do the best on OF. Many of them sell 7-minute vids for $30 and up even though you can google and get all their porn for free. (OF has a limit of $50 for a vid). 

I like the model some guys have of $5/mo subs and frequent $10 10-minute sex vids. I would think they would gross more than guys with $15 subs and $30 vids. 

Also, diligent OF guys spend an hour a day answering messages (or having an agent do it). These guys get many more 1-on-1 vids that they usually charge $100 for. There is a lot of money in these  and I'm pretty sure OF doesn't get their 20% on them. (IDK)

Personally I wish the porn studios would become good again. Much cheaper.

I'm not suggesting I've never looked at free porn, but I think your first statement isn't accurate.  I know how to find free porn, but I also know that porn is free either because (a) the content owner decided to share it for promotion or (b) it was downloaded by someone who then shared it, even though they don't have the legal right to do so.  I think a lot of the free porn available falls into the latter category.  If I'm a fan of someone and want to watch a lot of his videos, I'd rather pay him a nominal sum to watch all of his content instead of hoping to find all of the clips I want on free porn sites.  Besides, the free clips usually have a lower resolution and I enjoy watching a clearer picture.

I was even more serious when it came to music.  While Napster and the like were encouraging people to download music without paying, I always wanted to buy music on a physical carrier because the quality was better and I wanted to support the people who made the music. 

Just different values, I guess.
