My preference is to hire guys who are totally versatile and I avoid those who are exclusive tops or bottoms. You’ve got to keep in mind that not everyone is focussed on topping or bottoming. I rarely ever go there with an escort so I’m interested in his body – all of it. There are a couple of questions here. Versatile often tends to mean bottom on line when guys are cruising (or, to be fair, predominantly bottom), but there can often be a stigma attached to a self-description of "bottom" with that mentality that bottoms are a dime a dozen or why would anyone pay for a bottom. On the other hand, tops are often at a premium so you find a number of men, personally and professionally, who state this preference whether or not it actually is their heart's desire.

 

Personally, I believe an escort would be more marketable and have more opportunities if he were genuinely good at both and were able to explore all facets of intimacy and sexuality with as wide a variety of men as possible. The reality is that this is not always the case. For any number of reasons, which we should all respect, every individual may set their own limitations.

 

However Ad rian is right, those should be clearly stated. The idea that I met let client A do this but not client B is personally objectionable, and while not all escorts who do not state preferences do so, some are practicing this behavior.

 

One other thing: when you go to the listing services, such as Male Prime or All American Male and the like, in order to list you MUST state a preference. I also think if there is something you want to explore, you should simply ask.

 

Finally, any number of clients who are total bottoms have asked to see my backside, a number have asked me if they may rim me, and a number have simply wanted to see my legs. I happen to take good pictures from that end, no pun intended, so I post them. However, I would never use a picture such as is listed above, as my only or main image in advertising unless I was prepared to make it available.

The stigma is real, but unfounded. <sigh> In the world of porn, the great bottoms rarely achieve the fame of a big-dicked top. There have been a few exceptions, but for the most part bottoms are regarded as little more than props.

I agree with your comments (and your rear view too)! But the immediate motivation for my post was replying to an escort's Ad that did not specify a preference. When we spoke by phone he clarified that he did not bottom. That's ok, but I really don't understand why a guy who is an exclusive top will not just say so in the Ad. I hate having to get into all of this over the phone. I must admit that the failure to state a preference does set off a number of red flags in my mind. I do take your point and Phage's about rear pics, but I still think it is bit deceptive especially where the escort does not state a preference.

Just to be clear, I understand that motivation for not stating a preference. But what I don't understand it where the escort states an exclusive preference to top over the phone (without any descripton of the client), unless of course you are suggesting that the escort might actually be willing to bottom once he has had the chance to "size" the clent up.

 

Your point raises another question for me. Do you think it is easier for an escort to Top a really big client or to bottom from one? Is that part of what creates the incentive for te escort to keep his options open by not disclosing a preference until he has seen the client? If so, I guess I can see the escort point of view, but that does, however leave less transparency for the rest of us.

As a founding member of DATUBS (Dads Against Tops Using Bottom Shots), I have to say it is frustrating to see Total Tops with bodacious ass shots. Nonetheless I can get over it.

 

I assume any escort who fails to specify top/bottom/versatile is only into muscle worship...or just very confused...and I move on.

 

Any guy who advertises as a bottom has got my attention from the word go. "Versatile" in personal hook ups usually means Total Bottom but I don't find that to be true of escorts. In escort lingo "versatile" often means, "I'll bottom if I have to". In fact, I rarely even consider "versatile tops" because most of them are just plain bad at bottoming.

Escorts what's the deal with escorts who don't specify if they are Top, Bottom or Versatile in their promotional material? If you are exclusively a Top or Bottom, why not just say so? Ditto for Versatile? (In a similar vein, what's with the ass shots if you are exclusively a Top?) Clarifying all of this would really help to reduce search costs and pointless calls. Clients, do you agree this is a red flag when you see a review?
