Expensive .... quoted me $400 for an outcall.  Which he would lower to $350 if I needed to get a hotel.

I cringe at the thought of a $50 hotel room in NYC, if such a thing even exists.

You are right.  What do you get for $50?  A spot in a garage?

I have been lucky to find reasonable rates ranging $90 - $125 in good hotels, 4-5 hour time intervals, through www.dayuse.com

Wow, there is a lot of complaining about a guy who is willing to recognize that a hotel is expensive and willing to share a bit of the cost.  Maybe he would be better off not offering a hotel discount.

They were not complaining about him, but the idea of a $50/hour hotel room in NYC.

He isn't telling anyone to find a $50 hotel room.  He is offering you a discount on his rate if he meets you in a hotel opposed to your home.   Even if you use points and the room costs you nothing, he will still discount his rate by $50.  Consider it a safety discount on his part.
