Remember former porn actor Simon Rex? Yeah, it's been a while. But now he is being lauded for a film performance in a low-budget production of Red Rocket, and he is featured in the current Wall Street Journal magazine:

Red Rocket, his new film, which was shot in late summer 2020 and is out December 10, tells the story of an aging porn star named Mikey Saber who returns home to East Texas broke and bruised but already angling for a way back to Hollywood. Saber is a lot to handle; he runs his mouth nonstop, bragging about the adult film awards he’s won; and when he meets a 17-year-old girl at a local doughnut shop, he begins grooming her for a career in porn. The fact that the audience finds itself rooting for this character is a testament to Rex’s performance. As Variety put it after the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation: “It’s Okay Academy: You Can Nominate Simon Rex for Best Actor for ‘Red Rocket.’”

From Wikipedia, his full name is: "Simon Rex Cutright (born July 20, 1974), also known as Dirt Nasty, is an American actor, rapper, comedian, and former model. Rising to fame as an MTV VJ, Rex later became an actor known for What I Like About You, starring in three films of the Scary Movie franchise, and National Lampoon's Pledge This!. He later developed a rap persona, Dirt Nasty, and had several solo albums and co-founded the hip-hop group Three Loco. In 2021, he received critical acclaim for his lead role in Sean Baker's Red Rocket." I think he looks fantastic for 47. I'd definitely pay for that. 

Interestingly, Wikipedia makes him out to be a single recluse: "Rex lives off the grid in Joshua Tree, California in the middle of the Mojave Desert." I wonder why he's single. I've always said it's a tragedy for a straight man to be gorgeous, because straight women couldn't care less (for the most part). I bet if he were gay, he'd have men willing to do almost anything to be with him. Here he is in the movie:

Well, in looking him up, I think he's just engaged, not married (either that or it was a pretty short engagement, since it was just announced under 4 weeks ago). I'm not saying that looks are completely irrelevant to women, but for the most part, they're much more concerned that the man be able to take good care of them. Men, on the other hand are far more fixated on physical beauty. I once hired a gorgeous bisexual escort. He said women in straight bars never approached him, and when he went up to them, they immediately asked questions regarding his employment and financial status. Yet when he went into a gay bar, the men flocked to him like bears to honey, and these men couldn't care less how much money he made or how he made it. Regardless, the men would be groveling at his feet.

Streamed this last night on Amazon. Simon still looks pretty good, some impressive junk wagging as he runs naked in a scene towards the end of the film.

The resolution of the film was pretty low. On purpose? Or low budget? Didn’t add to the artfulness of the production in my mind. Kind of a bittersweet story, I sort of wanted to root for Mikey, but ultimately he’s monstrously selfish and sad.

Wanting one's partner to have a steady income doesn't mean that one expects to be taken care of. It might just mean that they don't want to have to take care of their partner.  Just because one has a steady income doesn't mean that that income is sufficient to support two people anyway.

Sean Baker is always very low budget. Most performers have never acted before. He's the man behind Tangerine made on an iPhone. Also had a big success with The Florida Project.
