My guess is that there are about 125 regular posters here. One way I gather it is to look at the views before any response is made to a post. After a response is made, then the newer views are repeat visitors trying to see what the response was. Anyone know a better way to count it?

It's more complicated than that. My observation is that not every thread trigger the same interest from all posters/lurkers here. Personally, I don't read every post made here, sometimes I skip a thread only by looking at the subject line.

For example: a subject like "Fucking hot straight guy ass" will attract more viewers than "Eating Pussy" ;) :+

RE: How Many Of Us? Too few for my liking.

"it does amaze me how few people do post here. I have been posting since the first days of hooboy...

And how many YEARS is that?

88 posters, Lucky? In all the years the MC has been around, that's the best Daddy and deej can do? You bet it is. And what a shame.

Great, thriving message boards require nurturing. You can't just throw up some bulletin board software and hope for the best. Well, I guess you can but you'd be a fool to expect success.

The best thriving boards these days have strong leaders who set the tone and create and enforce their TOS. Typically, forum owners create a message board to build an online community. Many do it as a social experiment while others do it to build e-commerce. Most do it as a labor of love: they love the subject matter and enjoy like-minded people who wish to share thoughts and ideas.

In many ways Hooboy was ahead of his time. He may not have had a clue how to control angry, raging, horny queens but he possessed a LARGE personality. And it was this personality that attracted a LARGE following.

Charisma can get you far but it can't sustain you, especially when you're dealing with opinionated gay men. And just because you're gay doesn't mean you automatically know how to lead and/or manage people.

Moderating is only fun for people who enjoy managing other people. Notice I used the word manage. I did not use the word CONTROL. If you don't have the managing gene, chances are you will fail at being a good moderator. If you're an angry, bitter, broke, sour control freak, honestly, who wants to attend that party?

Daddy has always said the MC was not something he wished to spend time on. Too bad. He has no clue how big numbers could bring him income and prevent him from crying over an empty bank account. And deej, probably by default (because there was no one else who wanted the IT gig), acquired the opportunity to make the MC his little power-play sandbox. Well, guess what folks, you either get what you pay for or you get what the people running the place want to serve you.

I will admit, simply because this is what's left of Hooboy's legacy, it's still standing. And, lord knows, it beats the competition by a mile. But Hooboy's personality is LONG GONE and there simply is NO WAY Daddy and/or deej can fill those drag pumps.

What does the future hold for this MC? If Daddy and deej drop dead tomorrow (I'm not wishing it, btw), maybe it will end up in Lucky's hands. At least in Lucky's hands it stands a chance for growth. Beyond that, I know I'm not holding my fresh ass-licked breath.

Dagnabbit, Rock Hard. People aren't supposed to know that I own the message board! Why else would I post so much if not to keep it going?

Well, actually, I just like it. But why do you want to start fights with deej? (RHETORICAL question, RH)

The board is what it is. If it was going to change, I think it would have happened by now. My 88 count was a joke. Now, when I come to New York, we can talk it over at the local coffee place. (Note that I didn't say Starbucks, although that would be ok with me.)

As you inch your way towards 10,000 posts (probably by next week at your current rate), I think it's safe to say you LOVE deej's sandbox (as you ignore him with ease. I prefer to swat the flies that dare to enter my house.). I think you explained your reasons for love in one of your 8000 threads.

Contemplating the doom-n-gloom economy projections that are expected to be the most challenging this winter, it seems you may be talking to yourself soon and then the board will be officially yours. How many gay men will be equipped to share $2000 overnight escapade stories when they can't afford to pay for internet service?

"The board is what it is."

And so is a pay-date with Cole Ramsey.

"If it was going to change, I think it would have happened by now."

Some trannies take longer than others to lop off their dicks. In this case, the girls needed to find theirs.

Well, sweets, I'm glad to have you here to help the place improve/change as it needs. Everything grows in some way, so why not try to effect the growth that you desire here. See you in New York!

"why not try to effect the growth that you desire here"

Been there, done that, sweetie. I had the audacity to call deej the liar that he is (and proved it, after years of tolerating him calling me one) and the power-hungry fool with no "real" power deactivated my account. I'm known to be a generous guy but I'm no fool. Fuck me with no grease once and then kiss the pain spot, I might invite you back. Try that crap again without the kiss and it's OVAH!

"See you in New York!"

I look forward to finally meeting the queen who has the audacity to call himself "Lucky." The cocktails at Daniel are too-fabu.

Drat! Now I've got to re-do my resumé.

. . . and my social calendar. :o

I think those numbers, however interesting and important for the competition and advertisers to see on this thread, support precisely what I've been saying all along about the current sad state of the MC. Are there only 362 people a month, around the world, interested in talking about hot men and the subjects that interest them? I think not. And of those 18,000+ unique IPs, even your typical, toothless, trailer-trash idiot can imagine how vibrant this board could be if only 20% of them would engage and contribute to the discussions here. 20% = 3600. Not some paltry 362.

If I were the owner of this site, faced with those numbers, I would have asked myself long ago why this board doesn't have at least 3000 active members chatting with each other and having a grand old time. Aren't gay men notorious for throwing the most fabulous parties? Then I would have figured out a smart, creative way to grow those numbers and earn a substantial income from them. (Am I the only board member who knows how to market and sell a no-talent star?)

But to ask such questions, you have to be willing to accept the answers, and then you have to be willing to proactively do something that provokes positive change, which really means you have to care.

Caring about the MC starts at the top and since Daddy has said many times that he doesn't have the time or the inclination (or maybe not enough talent and/or talented support) to develop the MC, you get what you currently have.

I think it's quite sad that Scott Adler, who claims he has curtailed his posts here in the last year or so (for numerous reasons, none of them good for the board) sits in the top tenth position.

And NO OFFENSE but, of those top ten posters, who would you follow if one of them started their own escort review message center?

Like all statistics it's just a wind sock like they use at the airport.

The "Unique IPs" also includes all the ISPs that use cache servers, for example all of the AOL users come in through a dozen or so IP addresses.

Hey Lucky, Remind me why your keeping RockHard around? He keeps putting his words in my mouth, and I'm running out of Listerine.

Rock Hard is sure trying to get booted, isn't he? One reason I post a lot is because I want to try to keep things interesting here. That means a wide variety of opinions and personalities come into play. Hopefully we interact well, but there is a line to be drawn. I know it when I see it!

>= 3600. Not some paltry 362.

While it would be nice to see more participation, if there were 3600 members posting it would be far to time consuming to read the forums and many members would probably find their interest dwindling.

Bigger is not better?

"if there were 3600 members posting it would be far to time consuming to read the forums and many members would probably find their interest dwindling"

Statistics show the exact opposite happens because a lively, energetic party is more exhilarating and addictive than a visit to a funeral home. Travel, photography, and food boards are successful examples. And believe me, there are big egos attracted to those subjects and know-it-all women are much harder to manage than gay men. Women tend to fight mean when provoked, especially around that time of the month.

Yes, cliques form, like any large social gathering that occurs on a daily basis but, with smart, caring and respectful moderation, cliques don't have to devolve into the Bloods and Crips.

Of course, you can't read every thread on a large board but who reads every thread here? With any size member group you eventually pay attention to the posters who "stand out" for you. Nobody reads every thread on any forum or keeps track of every member. Members always pick and choose. With internet forum life, having less members is rarely more than a coffee clutch. Those boards eventually disappear in the wind because they lack sufficient life.

With sincere regret...

"Hey Lucky, Remind me why your keeping RockHard around?"

It seems to me from casual observance these past three years that Lucky likes to instigate. Instigation is a form of manipulation and what gay man who spends his hard-earned money to (s)wallow in the pleasure of man-on-man sex doesn't know how to master the game of manipulation?

Lucky knows how to press a few buttons. Good for him if it gives him harmless pleasure. There is some comfort in knowing that someone is paying attention to what I have to say.

Still, no matter how fun, there is always a point when inconsiderate disrespect can take hold of an interesting, analytical conversation and force it to turn into something sounding like a bitter queen in need of starting some silly vendetta blather, calling it some stupid name like escortspeak. I am NOT that queen.

I wish to take this opportunity to apologize to Daddy if my criticism, intended to be constructive and motivational, offended him in any way. By default and given my nature, I tend to speak frankly about the truths I believe I know but I can't know everything. It is impolite to criticize a host in his home, especially if the criticism takes place in front of other people. Again, I apologize. This was not the purpose of my return to this board and I will refrain from making this mistake in the future.

Best wishes,

RockHard
