My partner and I are working on a project and looking for a couple of good quotes. We're primarily looking for motivational or inspirational quotes, but are open to anything you'd like to share. The more we hear, the better we can choose from. They don't need to be gay oriented, but a few of them can be helpful as well.

My favorite aphorists are Wilde and Nietzsche. Here are a few choice samples:

Nietzsche:

The degree and kind of a man's sexuality reach up into the ultimate pinnacle of his spirit.

Christianity gave Eros poison to drink: he did not die of it but degenerated -- into a vice.

Love of one is a barbarism; for it is exercised at the expense of all others. The love of God, too.

The sage as astronomer.--As long as you still experience the stars as something "above you" you lack the eye of knowledge.

The great epochs of our life come when we gain the courage to rechristen our evil as what is best in us.

Under peaceful conditions a warlike man sets upon himself.

A man's maturity consists in having found again the seriousness one had as a child, at play.

We often contradict an opinion for no other reason than that we do not like the tone in which it is expressed.

The mother of excess is not joy but joylessness.

We afterwards feel far more pangs of conscience over false praise than we do over false blame, probably merely because with too great praise we have compromised our judgment far worse than with too great, even unjust blame.

Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies.

Wilde:

A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her.

A man can't be too careful in the choice of his enemies.

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.

As long as war is regarded as wicked it will always have its fascinations. When it is looked upon as vulgar, it will cease to be popular.

Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same.

Chastity is the greatest form of perversion.

Conscience and cowardice are really the same thing. Conscience is the trade-name of the firm.

Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative.

Democracy is the bludgeoning of the people, by the people, for the people.

In life, we are all in the gutter. Some of us just tend to look up at the stars.

Morality is simply the attitude we adopt toward people we personally dislike.

Only the shallow know themselves.

Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.

The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
