Is Shower Time Part Of Massage Time?

Here is the situation: I scheduled a 1 1/2 hr massage last week. The massage time was scheduled for 1pm. I arrived at 12:55pm, undressed, and got on the table at 1pm. I mentioned to the masseur I wanted to shower after the massage. He said that was fine. When the massage was over, the masseur said I could shower and he would be in the living room when I was ready. I glanced at the clock and it was 2:19pm. (although I had booked a 90 minute session....this was 80 minutes) I showered, dressed, and paid him. As I glanced at the clock on the way out it was 2:29pm. Question: Should a 90 minute session starting at 1pm go for the full 90 minutes and finish at 2:30pm, and then give me 5 or 10 minutes to shower and get dressed? Or was the way the masseur played this correct? I felt shorted by 10 minutes (especially when paying $180)...and felt he factored in my shower/dressing time as part of the massage. (although he did nothing for those 10 minutes I showered and got dressed but play on his phone) Feedback appreciated.

I would assume when I book a 90 min slot that I am paying for the masseurs time, therefore if I want to shower it would be during the time I booked. You said he did "nothing" while you were showering, but am not sure exactly what you expected him to do? Adding 10 mins on to every appt booked to allow clients to shower and dress ect, would amount to an hour of time in his day, where he could have seen another client. Opinions may differ, but I would be perfectly happy with what you had for $180 so long as the massage was good and your expectations were met. Also you arrived 5 mins early. How would you have felt if his next client rang the doorbell 5 mins before the end of your allotted hour? I would say most important thing was did you feel you had a good massage/ending etc?

I don't agree. "Adding ten minutes to every apt to allow clients to shower and dress" might use up an hour of his time, but only if he was CONSTANTLY booked all day. He can use the ten minutes of your shower time to change the sheets, clean up, etc.

I think that the smart thing for a masseur to do would be to give you the FULL 60 or 90 minutes on the table, and let you take your time to shower and dress. Yes, we're splitting hairs here, but he caused you enough annoyance to provoke a complaint here.

As far as being early, even five minutes: don't do it. You were trying to be considerate, but if the previous client was late, that client SHOULD get his full 60 or 90 minutes, and you may be arriving at an awkward time. When I arrive early, I wait downstairs before ringing the bell.

I went to a restaurant the other day, and they charged me $6 for iced tea. OK, a tad high, but then they charged me $6 for a refill. THAT irked me, and might be enough to cause me not to return. The ten minutes for shower time is similar to the charge for a refill. Yes, the restaurant has the right to charge me, and the masseur may have the right to include your shower time in his $180, but it creates ill will, and smart marketers won't do it.

Are you sure your timeline is correct? You got there at 12:55 and left at 1:29. That's only 34 minutes.

My go-to masseur allows a half hour between appointments so that customer one has enough time to shower if he wants to, dress, make small talk, etc. before customer two shows up. All he asks is that you message him if you need to use the shower before hand; and then he usually asks you to be early so that the actual massage starts on time. Massages are for the full time booked whether you shower or not. That break also gives him time to answer phone messages, change linens, and relax for a bit. Seems like a good business practice to me. And in several years I've never run into another of his clients.

One of my faves offers shower time before or after or both & does not count it as part of the appt time. When I use his shower I always add to the tip. Another provider showers with clients after massage (no play, but a great way to finish) & does not charge, earning extra tip amt. Both are all-around good guys with real skills & fine extras. Both give full massage time. Small wonder they have loyal clients.

That is a great practice and very considerate of both clients. I have had the experience of meeting the incoming client as I am departing or, even more awkward, being buzzed in only to meet the masseur’s boyfriend leaving the apartment!

How would you feel if he had another client over when you finished bathing? You're consuming his time whether you're in the shower or on the table.

I see your point and I totally agree with it. However, one would hope that providers of discreet services wouldn't schedule clients back-to-back. Nothing worse than running into the previous or the next client in the hallway.

Yes but thats why the appointment perhaps lasts the time allocated. Allowing indeterminate time to shower and depart surely runs more risk of meeting the next or preceding client?

I not want to pass other clients going into or out of a masseur's or escort's revolving door. And, I don't want to subscribe to the services of a masseur or escort who hasn't spent time before our appointment preparing for our session, and after our appointment recovering from our session.

Both escorts and masseurs have a duty to be rested, fresh, fully-prepared, and ready for me and for the client after me.

My therapeutic massage therapist (non-sex) usually sees me after his daily gym workout and recovery, so he's still warm but he's had a snack and prepared a drink of sip during the massage. Our scheduled time is 1-1/2 hours. I arrive within 15 minutes of the appointment and I'm out the door within 10 minutes after the message ends. We are both prepared for either of us to be late. He has worked on me for 2 hours and has sometimes worked on me for 1:20. I don't care, because my calendar is clear after the appointment.

The next massage after the 2 hour one, I gave him his fee plus 1/3rd + tip. Three hours later, he called me to be sure I knew I had 'overpaid' him. Joyfully, I replied, "Do you have any idea how long our last session was? TWO hours! I didn't have the cash that day to tip and pay for your time, so I added it to this session."

I like having a professional relationship with my providers. That means I'm not paying an hourly employee for an hour, I'm paying a professional for his services. My tips are not 'To Insure Promptness', nor do I consider them obligatory. My tips are gifts to a professional relation guy. He also enjoys bottles of wine from my cellar and doesn't hesitate ask me for a bottle when planning a special occasion bottle.

My massage therapist limits himself to 10 clients in a 5 day week. My favorite escort sees only one client per day.

Do you believe them? I don't mean to be questioning it, but I live in NYC and some of these guys are BUSY making the $$$ while they can.

I have experiences with both that would seem impossible if they had a revolving door, including unplanned lunches before, drinks afterwards.

"recovering from our session" ......now you're just bragging! LOL ?

During the times I get a massage and would like to shower after, if they don’t offer “would you like to shower?” (In which case I always reply, “sure, if you don’t mind”), then I always ask “would you mind if I rinse off quickly?”

Never had a problem, and always expected that this shower and getting dressed time is part of what I’m paying for. My experience seems to reflect that a masseur who doesn’t have a tight schedule doesn’t mind if I take more time than the allotted 60-90 mins.

However, if they are booked after me, then of course they will want to make sure they have time for me to get showered and out of there (and table prepped) in time for their next client to arrive... without their feeling rushed.
