In another thread here, Scott Adler made a very cogent comment:

“In this community it's almost eerie … We're all so close to each other but in reality so removed and far away. I'm sure threads have been written in the past but when an escort/client dies, unless they are THAT well known there's not usually someone to inform those of us that would want to know.”

I did not wish to impinge on that thread with this, but I have often thought the same thing. This board opened a new world for me, and I have made some wonderful friends and met some interesting people through its auspices. But if something happened to one of them (or me), who would there be “to inform those of us that would want to know”. One of those friends I mentioned once said almost the same thing and said, “Would I have to peruse the obituaries of your local paper to know?” That is eerie. Especially since I do not regularly read obituaries myself. Maybe I need to make a codicil to my will or leave a letter to a trusted friend (with a list to inform). I like to think they would want to know about me. I would certainly like to know about them. For lack of a better phrase, one might call it closure.

FINALLY! }(

Seriously, this is something that has troubled me for some time. I recently discovered that a friend from my showbiz days has apparently passed on. We kept in contact over the years, but after his wife passed, it was less and less. Now I am unable to find him. I regret not keeping in better touch.

Oliver you KNOW I like your idea.

If we learn nothing more from Anna Nichole Smith (-Marshall-Stern(?)), we should learn to PUT IT IN WRITING!

My lawyer has a letter of instructions filed with my will. It has a short list of people who should be contacted. I chose each carefully because they are known blabb^H^H^H^H^H participants in various communities and I trust them to goss^H^H^H^H pass on any news that needs to be passed on.

There isn't any one person in my life who is aware of all the other people in my life so I've done my best to make sure everyone will know I've croaked.

To be honest, though, it won't be any real news and I won't be around to care.

Recently on a slow news day here in the NYC metropolitan area there was a story about a man found mummified in front of his TV set approximately a year after his death. He was located only after a water pipe burst during a winter cold snap and the cascading water brought people to his home at the bequest of neighbors.

The man had a son that lived relatively nearby but a disagreement had disenfranchised them from one another.

It is totally false that the man had been watching Fox News for all that time.

Perhaps it is better to keep good friends and family close and have people who know us mourn us and let the world know of our passing.

Of course not. Fox News doesn't induce a coma; it enrages people and fills them with fear. :o

As for me, I have always loved DJ Frankie Crocker's sign-off: "May you live to be a hundred, and me a hundred minus a day, so I'll never know good people like you have passed away." :)
