Do you think the quality of escorts in NYC has declined?

I've hired escorts on and off for a number of years. It seems to me that there used to be a good number of hot, responsive, responsible men in the profession who you could count on for a good time. I'm thinking of guys like Jason Markus, Mike Grey, HotboyWill, Adam Michaels, who made you feel like they wanted you to be there, instead of wishing you would hurry up and leave. I saw these guys multiple times and it was always a pleasure, friendly, and hot.

Just wondering if those of you with experience think there are still escorts of that quality in NYC? If so, who?

When I started hiring in the early 1990s, there were a few dozen guys one could meet at Rounds, Cats, Show Palace, Stellas and the Gaiety. Then Rentboy emerged … with possibly 100-200 guys offering services. Today. between the various massage websites and rentmen.com, there must be 500+ guys. Thanks to the internet, the market is far more tramsparemt. The city has not gotten any bigger. If anything, it has become more expensive. I would say that as of 2019 there is an over-supply of entirely unqualified guys.

There was a time in LA when you could drive down Santa Monica and feast your eyes on the trade, many of whom were simply stunning, then turn up Laurel Canyon, park in the back and take the staircase down into Numbers, chat up Joe or one of the other great bartenders, catch up on the gossip with or about the management. The clients were often brilliant (on one memorable occasion Ashkenazy was there, to mention just one real star in the firmament) and the boys were ... also brilliant. God I loved it then.

Or quality of clients has inclined?? ;)

Lol absolutely not.

It seems what most of you have described above is an era that has passed, when porn stars were actually “stars” and the adult film/escort industry weren’t so oversatured. Years ago this line of work was still very much taboo. Being a “porn actor” or escort has been normalized/glamorized and I find is very casual dinner banter in New York. It is “chic” to have hired in certain circles.

To answer your question, yes the quality of escorts in New York has gotten worse. Probably in every major city. Because people who have absolutely no business escorting are now doing it because they think it’s “quick & easy” money. Which is untrue. It is quick money, but it is not easy money. So you have new escorts doing a half-ass job which leads to apprehensive clients which leads to frustrated escorts (who are good at what they do). It is a domino effect. Unfortunate, but it will get worse.

Random thoughts:

The average quality has declined, for the reason suggested "Hypothetically." But, overall, there are still a number of high-quality escorts in NYC, you just have to search them out and figure out who is good. (Some of the best do not advertise regularly.) So the total number of good guys has surely increased in the last 20 years.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Maximum, an agency, had excellent guys, and you could generally trust Matt and Stephen to give you a good match. (No one is perfect, and I realize there were bad choices for some, but in my case the only bad choice was a guy I sent back without charge, after discussing him with Stephen.) I miss those guys, especially Derek Adams. One of their stars, Ross, returned to Rentmen last year or so.

It's declined EVERYWHERE! Not only in NYC. :( I blame it on the internet and the demise of the Street Scene and Hustler Bars. There used to be a market and place for everybody, both buyer and seller but not anymore. Now any Joe Blow that wants to "peddle his wares" only has the same venue as the Upper Scale Escort and thinks he's in the same price category!

To me the most exciting part of escorting was the interview - the actual physical interaction with a lad who wanted me to want him. That is largely gone now - the lineup along the wall at Rounds, the discreet conversation at Numbers, the fleeting moment of thrill in the side room at the Gaiety. Places gone but not forgotten. That’s the attraction for me of Adonis and Villa Gianni.

For those who don't advertise, how do you find them or how do they find clients?

The men not advertising and still meeting people clearly indicates that they have regular pool and don't need to meet any new men. Had they wanted to fill the gap say any regulars are not seeing the escorts due to some reason will put ad back! Till that time it is hard for newbies to get in touch with those men.

Living in New York, who has that much time to casually dwindle through the extensive catalogue where there are easily over 500+ active escorts? Unless you are retired?

Very few guys are as reliable as they used to be. Some folks just throw the hat on the scene and see if they can make a few bucks.

Yes!

Since craigslist and BP disappeared all of the sudden escorts keep on talking about the bottom feeders texting them...

It's a buyers market!

And yet some keep on wondering "who's next?" or a frequent poster who constantly says: "I hope he comes to NYC".

Or the ones wondering if a top would bottom for them for an extra $20 or $50.

Where may I ask is Adonis?

Adonis is a male strip operation that is held in various locations in NYC and LA. It features mostly bodybuilder types. It comes in the vanilla version - some guys dancing in jocks of various kinds while others solicit companionship for $20/song, and the all nude version, without the dancing but with the same intentional interactions with the clientele. The first type is openly advertised, the second is by invitation to those on their email list.

About how much does that run for and what does it get you? I'm only familiar with Montreal when it comes to strip clubs and prices are different and dancers used to be more interactive up there was my understanding. ;)

You can check it all out in their website: TheAdonisLounge.com. It also should have instructions to join their email list, which is how you get invites and addresses for the all-nude parties. The talent is nude, not the clients, thank god. Generally there is a door charge for the regular, public events, not sure how much but not more than $20. The entry fee for the parties is usually $50. The interactions are usually $20 per song. If memory serves.

Yes, the quality has declined - the internet has made it far too easy for anyone with a schlong to call himself an escort and ply his wares on any number of websites without being held accountable. The "old-time" escort agencies worked to filter out many of flakes. There do seem to be less guys in the business who aren't clock watchers or at least were better at feigning a boyfriend experience.

Given that the barriers to entry are far lower than in the pre-Internet days, more and more guys who want to make a buck while they fuck have started escorting. My guess is there are as many great escorts as in the past, but they are somewhat overshadowed by mediocre guys who think it is easy to to do.
