yes they said that when they last won it in 98 with Zidane et al, second generation North African & black players but socially nothing changed for those populations, it's still adeeply racist society I feel compared to UK.

Russia deserves a hearty congrats for staging a virtually incident-free Cup. Hope that Qatar is progressing towards a similar experience, but with our world's current state, I'm fearing a '72 Munich-like disaster is on the way.

A great game, I was prepared to say Croatia was robbed after that penalty, but in the end it was probably not decisive. Les Bleus are worthy winners

It has to be said that Russia put on a great tournament.

 

Where does one find the time to organize a World Cup and steal a national election. Hats off to them.

They played better, controlled the game for longer periods of time. Idiot ref fucked them over & killed their momentum.

 

A pretty meh ending to an otherwise successful World Cup. Russia did a great job!

The aliteration of course, but also “noir” was the word used during the French colonisation of Africa.

 

“Black” is preferred in young people’s French, it is more neutral than noir (which is what your grandmother would have used, with all the prejudices of her days), plus using an Americanism makes you sound modern, and more “woke”.

Thanks! I thought the French hated incursions of foreign words. In fact I thought there was a concerted effort to "purify" the language.

 

Now this is about Quebec not France. I had a friend who was pretty fluent in French. He said that one time while visiting Quebec he was asking info from someone but did not know a particular French word so he used the English one. He said the person then just walked away.
