I much prefer the motel-type places with doors on the outside for the exact reason you state and also because sometimes the nicer hotels require hotel card-keys to use the elevators. I did a university Ph.D grad program with most of the fellow students being from Korea or Taiwan. They definitely did not have perfect English but the expectation was all of their writing to be done in very good English. I often helped do a round of copy edits for my classmates but they often also had their work looked at by others as well. I'm hoping because I work in education that I will still have a stable job during the recession. It depends. If I am going to have more of a BFE with a dinner and conversation than it's definitely good to have an escort who is at least experienced in the world and has something to talk about.
