Grocery Shopping II: Self check out, like or loath?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to ICTJOCK's topic in The Lounge
When I was in Europe a few months ago I encountered self-service check-out stands at some grocery stores in Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. I always went to the cashier for service. One time, I did notice on my receipt that I had been charged some nominal fee (around 0.35 Euros). I was in a hurry to catch a train so I didn't have time to ask about it, and the receipt wasn't in English so I can't be certain what it was for; but, I believe it was a fee for using the human cashier. -
Inflation continues to fall

@stevenkesslar I don't disagree with you. Just wanted to point out that a lot of people don't own homes and don't own stocks, so they are going to feel different about this inflation cycle than the typical client on this site who already has a nest egg. Being a millennial and in the middle to younger end of the working age, my view is skewed towards the average working person. The age group that benefited the most wealth growth in the last 10 years were people over 60. And because of the aging Baby Boomers, there are more and more people over 60 compared to the number of people working. So the data will continue to show average people getting wealthier, but what it's really saying is the average person is getting older. Ask a 30 year old who is trying to move out of his parents house how they are doing, and it will be a different story. -

This is the viewpoint of someone who is benefiting from the increase in wealth inequality. (Nothing wrong with that, I'm in the same boat). Like my Wall Street Journal reference above, it is only the rich/old who have assets such as a home and stocks that have been enjoying the last three years. Meanwhile, working class and young adults with no assets have an uphill climb to even enter the housing or stock market as more of their income is going towards rent, vehicles, and groceries than before. -
Should we be more careful at our banks?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to + keroscenefire's topic in Questions About Hiring
This is yet another reason why any voter or political party that endorses equitable access to services should support laws that require merchants to accept cash payments. Sex industry, adult performers, and others on the "fringes of society" lack the same access to businesses that don't accept cash. -

Yes, I too have a side gig with payment by cash. Pre-2020 I would deposit that cash into the bank and then pay everything by credit card. Since 2020, I have stopped using credit cards and pay for almost everything by cash. My side gig money does not get deposited... It gets spent by me without ever seeing the bank. I find that I am now more intent with my spending and therefore have more money left in my bank account at the end of each month, as there are little to no credit card bills anymore. The "free" rewards I used to receive from credit card I can now afford to buy with cash, since I'm spending so much less because I'm more mindful of my spending. Plus the "pay by cash" discounts that are popping up at more and more restaurants as merchants push back on excessive reward credit card fees. In summary, switching from credit cards and checks back to cash has simplified my life, made me more mindful on purchases and budgeting, and has made me a richer man. -

When there is no bag boy, I never start to bag my own groceries until the cashier is finished and I have paid. I do this to keep my eye on the prices until transaction is finished. Then, I will bag my items as the next person begins their check-out. It really takes no time to bag at all. I use paper bags only, and usually can fit everything into 3 paper bags instead of the 10 plastic bags that others use for a similar haul. When emptying my cart for the cashier, I arrange my items in the order I want them to be bagged, grouping together refrigerated items, non-refrigerated items, and non -food items. Typically these fit into one or two paper bags each. It's a habit passed to me by my father, who used to work in a grocery store in the 1940s/1950s. -
Is it the one with you in the tub? I can see it... And I only have a free Rentmen account.

Anyone else a victim of a "Thanksgiving ham" family?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to viewing ownly's topic in The Lounge
Either (1) rotate who hosts, or (2) show up to your sister's for 1 hour of conversation, drinks, and snacks, and then be on your way. That's what I do some years with family at Thanksgiving or Christmas. I'll tell them I have plans at 3:00pm, but I can stop by at 1:30 for pie and egg nog and conversation. This way we get the family time without all of the headaches. -
SPOX vaccine My understanding is that there was no vaccine developed specifically for monkeypox. Rather, the smallpox vaccine was used. So logic would dictate to get spox vaccine for mpox. These abbreviations can be confusing!

*Barcelona - Sauna Thermas - It only got better!
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to imrthr's topic in Europe
I will visit Sauna Thermas for the first time in October 2024, and I hope for there to be a plethora of twinks, muscle studs, wolves, otters, and everything in between! just as long as they are men, I'm good! -
I used to work in sewerage. I guess that's where I became known locally as a Man Hole expert 😉. Besides "flushable" wipes which are a big problem all of the time, our biggest trouble locations were: (1) Downstream of high schools, where manholes would fill with used tampons flushed from inside the high school, (2) Pump stations on Sunday mornings, when all the flushed used condoms from the night before clogged the pumps, and (3) Low income neighborhoods where excessive grease from cooking clogged the pipes like an old man's arteries.

Last summer my doctor and I discussed the risk of monkeypox, but he hasn't told me anything about mpox.

Too bad. I love a 40 year old man who looks like a sexy 40 year old. Woof! I must have you confused with nycboi in this thread: https://www.companyofmen.org/topic/131263-nevermind/?do=findComment&comment=1938345 To answer your question, moving to California is a lifestyle decision, not just an escort competition decision. Try living there a few weeks first and see how you like it. But if your business is suffering in New York, it will likely continue to suffer in California without changing other things besides the location.

Here's a reminder that even with the hundreds of men in NYC, there is still room to serve a niche. This person could not find anyone he would like to hire in NYC. Maybe @socurious should focus on what he can bring to the table as a mature 40 year old man. You know, approach the Daddy angle. There's plenty of young guys who want to play with Daddy's, although it may involve some kissing and penetration, not just body worship.

Inflation continues to fall
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to EZEtoGRU's topic in Personal Finance & Investing
The Wall Street Journal had an interesting article this week that basically says the last two years has seen a wealth transfer from young to old. Those under 35 are paying more for rent, their first house, gas for commutes, and groceries. Their net worth had stagnated, and their prospect of homeownership has diminished. Those over 65 are sitting pretty on highly valued properties, inflated stocks, and social security checks which keep up with inflation. It's no wonder most people on this forum feel flush, because most seem to be in the over 60 category and are benefiting from the increasing wealth inequality between young and old. (That's not necessarily a bad thing. I hope to be old and wealthy someday.) -
I have trouble believing exposing someone's status is now allowed. Even if it is, I wouldn't do it.

Have you ever seen someone toss salad with his hands?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to a topic in The Lounge
Very ironic for NYC 😂 At least when I request a single-use straw, I'll be comforted to know that it's wrapper was only touched by gloved hands! -

They better not be using single use plastic gloves. Re-usable utensils are much more sustainable for the environment than plastic gloves. -
Great! And let's have the other nights of the week be Gentlemen's night! Johnson's overall does a great job at enforcing its rule of each female must be accompanied by one male, and no screeching, telling, or woo-hoo. But having Gentlemen's only night on peak Fridays and Saturdays would be welcome, especially when it's already very crowded with patrons on those nights.
