1. I wanted to ask A.H. about the audiobook, but he took no questions from the audience during the Q&A I attended. :-( I have also listened to it multiple times. Here, Hunter Harris gives some examples of how good Armie Hammer is in the audiobook. http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/just-20-descriptions-of-armie-hammers-voice.html Some clever person tweeted a terribly poignant video, sort of a SPOILER. https://twitter.com/georgiemorvis/status/941825787904192512
2. My dog invaded a picnic site down at the river when the two guys were off in the weeds. Anything left out was his, he thought.
3. A friend of mine would grab the little red stir stick from my cocktail and fling it across the bar because it made me look too something.....queeny? My inside voice was telling him "you're not exactly John Wayne." And he sure wasn't! But he sure knew how to re-wire a kitchen and change out a window at home. We come in all varieties. I do like to avoid the conniving ones though.
4. I saw him a few years ago. He was in great shape and the session was dynamic but I never went back. I think about him now and then but something didn't quite click enough to return.
5. By now it's pretty clear these two costars have sort of a prankster relationship at times, which straight boys are apt to do, but here on the Ellen show one might wonder if they made a bet ahead of time who could touch the other one the most during the show, and that Chalamet probably came up with the idea. If not, they are still pretty cute how they man handle each other in front of Ellen. https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/call-me-by-your-name oliver
6. Award shows are such an enigma. I don't get too upset when my favorites are left out, but I do admit disappointment that the Golden Globes left out Sufjan Stevens, Luca Guadagnino and Michael Stuhlbarg this morning. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/golden-globe-nominations-2018-nominees-full-list-1202634435/
7. &&&&&&&&&&& SPOILER &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Guadagnino (and Aciman) were portraying how desire works, the vulnerability that can result, an ultimately pain. The father's talk how nature has cunning ways, though it happened last summer, was the last scene of the summer segment. Immediately after are the holiday scenes, and so it isn't much of a stretch to realize that here it comes, the news from Oliver finally brought the pain Professor Perlman predicted Elio would feel and should embrace and nurture. And so he does, in front of the fire. The final scene is one take that lasts over 3 minutes. Was well done. Guadagnino said they shot it three times and took the middle try, the first was more stoic and the last even more emotional.
8. J Peterman lives on beyond the 80s! I still laugh when I read their catalog, but not when I wear my men's Irish pub cotton shirt, charcoal, as serious as a foggy night in Dublin.
9. LoveNDino Yes! I took one at nearly same moment. My autofocus is a little wonky in a darkened room so not as good. My video clips I took are pretty good. Was going to upload some video but looks like that kind of function is not supported.
10. "...are you saying what I think you're saying?" Mikey Heller, Cartoon network cartoonist
11. I saw Guadagnino last weekend. Interesting fellow. Here he is from the Sirius Andy Cohen interview last week, with the cast of CMBYN. Sounds like Chalamet had a little gay buddy in high school named Joey. So sweet. These millennials are so free compared to how it was. Hurray for them.
12. Classical music is soothing, which comes in handy during my commute on the 405. Talk shows can be irritating unless there is a worthy guest being interviewed like Dan Rather where the interviewer is nearly required to keep the dialogue mature.
13. I figured best to have the mortgage paid off because sometime down the road I will retire and at that point I'd like it paid. One never makes money in the market if one never takes some money off the table at some point, which is what I've decided to do. It feels a relief. I still worry that my retirement accounts are at risk from what Greenspan used to call irrational exuberance. I don't get the market sentiment right now. I haven't heard much of a reason for it other than pointing to the election outcome which is a head scratcher for me.
14. I have been dollar cost averaging money out of the market since last summer and gradually paying down my mortgage. I know that sounds conservative, but I've let my retirement accounts ride the wave upwards so I consider my approach towards risk is balanced. I've thought about rebalancing my retirement money though I'm not really sure which funds would be a safe haven to sweep some of my profit taking into.
15. Did Luca G. and Timothee C. attend the LA Film Critics Association awards? Perhaps that is why they showed up at 4 showings this weekend. The trailer for The Shape of Water looks amazing. I talked to someone at ArcLight last night who has already seen I, Tonya and it sounds good. Perhaps people shy away because of the circumstances. The cast does look good. I still haven't seen Lady Bird.
16. He's been mentioned on other threads, so I'll revisit her highness, Dame Mike Pence
17. I don't do social apps, but am aware how this kind of meeting can unfold into quite a persistent, unsettling situation, when they have your mobile # and your home address. When I see the homeless in LA I feel awful. I understand! You're human. But not taking this guy with you sounds like the smart move. I ask myself what I can do to help. I keep trying and I keep asking.
18. When I came out my brothers did cool things. Change churches to one that doesn't preach God will throw me into the lake of fire. Call Mom because they were worried about HIV and if I was going to be OK Give me a hug. And so on. When I brought a jock boyfriend home I could tell my jock brother was jumping up and down inside. (Pick him. Pick him.) My oldest brother offered to give my wedding reception after marriage equality happened, him assuming a wedding was going to happen. It has been years now since I came out to them. I am glad my siblings, Mom, cousins, nephews, nieces an so on are aware. When asked, I tell coworkers. I don't always make it easy, first asking why they would ask such a question and so on, but not in a mean way, just to clear the air about where they are coming from. In the end, having people in management know I'm gay has been good. That said, I understand there is a reason why a disproportionate number of homeless youth are LGBT. Not every parent is a worthy parent. I come from a family that didn't use the N word or the F word or any other word such as those. I'm lucky that way. Not every family is going to be as safe to be out to as other families.
19. I wish Hammer could be there at the Arclight tonight. Here is a clip from last night at the Landmark, speaking about Sufjan Stevens. Guadadgnino and Chalamet will be at the Landmark and Arclight again tonight. https://www.instagram.com/p/BcMf3OYDXq2/
20. I admire how he pushed back against Cohen's rhetoric. Hammer is so intelligent, practical, respectful and quick.
21. I will be there! He's also doing Q&As tonight Chalamet will join,
22. I read the Brody piece in the New Yorker and IMO he got some parts wrong, and other complaints are his problem, not the movie's. But really some people will decide not to like something and so it goes. I wonder if the bisexuality rubs people the wrong way. It never did me. Luca Guadagnino and Timothee Chalamet will be here in LA this weekend for 4 Q&A's. Excited to see them in person. In the meantime, TC and AM were on Ellen this week. Good interview.
23. Bruno Mars. Beautiful song. The Biebs. Song is kinda dopey, but the refrain really gets me.
24. I agree. The Wire is the best TV show ever. S4 is my favorite.
