I'm fine with aging performers. I'm actually aging myself. I saw Annette Benning do Ruth Draper Chronicles in LA. It was quite a treat. More recently saw Al Pacino and Judith Light at the Pasadena Playhouse. Such acting! But I get it. Whatever sells, is what we are served. People want their young flesh.

I like Xavier Dolan a lot. He takes some heat from all sides. He's gay. He's young and brilliant. He's French Canadian. Do those things might make him a target? I think so. His Tom a la ferme (2013) was really interesting. It's a creepy, erotic thriller he wrote, directed and acted.

The other thread, about The Shape of Water, offers an important comment how important that movie is in light of the age we are living in today. For me The Post is important for that same reason. IMO 65% of the country needs to see The Post as a reminder of the importance of freedom of the press and how dangerous when our leaders lie to us.

Chalamet and Guadagnino took questions from the audience at the Arclight and when one of the audience asked Chalamet if Hammer was a good kisser, the interviewer (I believe it was this same lady) cut off the person asking and said "I can tell you that he is." And anyone that has seen the movie has to agree!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& SUPER SPOILER ALERT &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Here is what you may have missed. Not sure how long this will stay up on You Tube. Guadagnino spoke about this final scene at the Arclight Hollywood. He shot the scene 3 times. It's 3 and 1/2 minutes of Elio's emotional response. Guadagnino kept the middle take, another take was more emotional and the other one more stoic.

I thought there was distribution in the US but now I don't see it available anywhere.

I watched it for the 2nd time this afternoon, and am convinced it plays better to a straight, under 35 hipster audience, cinephiles that might enjoy the dark, erotic tone of it, how the movie peers under the rock of this guys life and finds some squiggly, creepy (for them) stuff. A couple of the erotic scenes are pretty darn hot, worthy of a slow motion re-check. I understand how a gay audience would write this one off. But also, I can see why it won a directing award at Sundance. I'm glad I gave it second chance.

I keep finding my way back to MeTV, and often wonder about what was presented as entertainment decades ago compared to now. My favorite has to be The Andy Griffith Show. It's pretty flawless. I really love that one. .

I would see it for Adam Driver. He's good.

I finally got to see Chanticleer tonight, my first visit to Walt Disney Concert Hall as well, which seemed to be tuned perfectly for vocal performance. They have a wonderful stage presence, and sang straight into our hearts. I understand Chanticleer visits here just once a year, for their Christmas concert. These beautiful men and their beautiful voices. The crowd was ecstatic at the talented performances.

Hadn't thought about it in a while, and technically neither was a gay male homosapien, still Ianto loved Jack and only Jack, and would do anything for him. That counts for something darn it! http://www.pinknews.co.uk/images/2016/05/torchwood_640x345_acf_cropped-1.jpg

^ If the Oscars follow the Globes and nominate Mariah, (there's a pun in there), and leave out Sufjan.
-
Sufjan singing at the Academy Awards could really spruce up that show compared too a lot of the lame tunes endured over the years. Hopefully will be nominated.

Love is Strange is another movie with mature characters, Alfred Molina and John Lithgow.

A housemate arriving back from the farm was excited to tell me they insert a rod up there. Took me a while to understand what he was getting at. But yeah I imagine the vessel used to harvest the semen may jerk the bull off. I should have asked.

I wonder if Dr. Ruth ever covered this ground. Back home in the Midwest, when I was a wee lad, farmers were aware of the pleasures of this practice due to how farms would harvest semen from the bull. I also had a straight(ish) friend that was more familiar with the pleasure of it/ wanted some, more than I. I wondered where he picked up such a notion, him not being a farmer and all, to take cock up the ass, but I was a little shy to ask such a question, or maybe not smart enough to ask him, or to admit what he was telling me, to fuck him, and further to fuck his pussy. I only wish I could turn back to hands of time and be there for him the way he hinted at.

Screened at OutFest this year. Paths (Ein Weg)

The cast is great. The movie made money per IMDB. Roger Ebert was one of the more generous critics. I always resonated with his reviews, especially when a movie had LGBT characters. A lot of straight male critics are just treading water at best around movies with gay male characters as if they have some mission to explain why the gay characters are there, to get it, yet their critique of gays always sounds as if these characters are some kind of zoo animals that landed in the middle of things. I miss Ebert. I remember other critics were luke warm to The Family Stone, but for me the movie was endearing. I watch it every year when it's on during the holidays.

IndieWire recognized Harris Dickinson's performance on their 2017 list of best male movie performances. http://www.indiewire.com/2017/12/best-actors-male-performances-movies-2017-1201907153/

I love this review, especially how it is devoted to Sufjan Steven's music. I'm more convinced than ever the Golden Globes are ridiculous for ignoring his songs.

I am always interested in hearing what she has to say her radio show on Sirius.

I wanted to ask A.H. about the audiobook, but he took no questions from the audience during the Q&A I attended. :-( I have also listened to it multiple times. Here, Hunter Harris gives some examples of how good Armie Hammer is in the audiobook. http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/just-20-descriptions-of-armie-hammers-voice.html Some clever person tweeted a terribly poignant video, sort of a SPOILER. https://twitter.com/georgiemorvis/status/941825787904192512
