Khajuraho is indeed a very interesting site that shouldn’t be missed when touring India.

I had the distinct pleasure of visiting India and Indonesia way back in 1990 when my brother, who lived in Pekanbaru at the time working for Texaco’s Overseas Oil and Exploration Division, offered me a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We spent over 30 days extensively traveling around the two countries and toured Jaipur, Johdpur, and Udaipur, as well as Agra, Darjeeling, and Delhi, then popped over to Bali, Balikpapan, Borobudur, and Jakarta before ending up in Singapore. In India we stayed at some of the old Maharaja’s Palaces turned into hotels like the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur and the Shiv Niwas Palace, Udaipur.

Among all the well known popular tourists sights we visited in India, one least known and off the beaten path was Khajuraho. Very interesting to say the least!

I’ll have to say this visit was one of the highlights of my life, along with the two years that I lived in Italy.

After two Preview Shows to launch the National Tour of “Hello, Dolly!” in Utica, NY, the tour “will celebrate its official opening with a Cleveland, Ohio, engagement beginning September 30th ahead of an Official Opening Night on October 5th.” Very excited that one week from today I’ll be there for it, seeing the show again the next day as well. This will be my first ever back-to-back of the same show with the same cast. Can’t wait to see Dolly again after seeing it in NYC with Bernadette and Bette, and now with Betty!

So, I find many of them interesting. I would think you might have more productive things to do than to count how many times a fellow poster posts.

I remember one time I was in rehearsal for a show, but was able to leave early one night, and since I'm without a car and the only way to get directly there and back is by car, I had to call a cab to get back to the train station. I was talking with the cabbie along the way - a guy probably in his late 20's - and he was curious about my work at the theatre. He wasn't a theatre person at all - but he did slay me when he said something like "but my girlfriend likes to drag me to shows sometimes. We've seen Blue Man Group, and Stomp (etc)..." - and it seemed to me that he had never actually ever seen a "real" play or musical before. (So, although I certainly would have suggested he come to our show - and in fact may have anyway - it was Sondheim's Pacific Overtures, and I doubt that would have been quite his style, lol.)

None of my friends or coworkers know, or even like, muscial theater. Zero conversation ability there. One coworker wants to see “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” next year when the tour comes through Pittsburgh, another the same with “Phantom of the Opera”. Other than the movie with Johnny Depp, and never seeing POTO movie, they’re basically clueless. My neighbor’s kids across the street are much more familiar with quite a few Broadway shows, which really surprises me considering their ages (10 and 12), the older one having a list of over 15 musicals she wants to listen to the OBCR of. I’m slowly educating and introducing her to more shows to add to her list.

My neighbor was sheepish about telling me about seeing Hello Dolly (as i know he has seen it multiple times). I am lucky as he is a big theater person and always invites me to his favorite productions. And, i don‘t really have many other friends who know theater as much as he does.

I have a copy of a live performance from Iconic Arts. The quality is excellent. LOVED the production. Surprisingly, I found Harry Hadden-Paton to be an improvement over Rex Harrison's Henry Higgins. It is the first production that I have enjoyed since I saw the original road show with Anne Rodgers in 1950 something in Los Angeles. The others were all disappointing. (Except the movie!)

“LES MISÉRABLES- National Tour (through August 11, 2019)
Cameron Mackintosh presents the new production of Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. With its glorious new staging and dazzlingly re-imagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, this breathtaking new production has left both audiences and critics awestruck. Featuring the thrilling score and beloved songs “I Dreamed A Dream,” “On My Own,” “Stars," “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More,” and many more, this epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history. I have a friend in the ensemble - used to be a Boston actress, then did a national tour, and this was her first Broadway gig. She posted a wonderful post on Facebook the other night, expressing her sadness at the announcement and yet her joy at the privilege of having been part of the show. Of course, as I responded to her, I know she will be offered many more opportunities, even as it's tough to see this one go.

What we can never forget is that, whether we personally like a production or not, that closing notice does mean a huge loss of work for all involved. As I get older and see more of my friends/colleagues/students get Broadway gigs, that has driven that point home more than ever.
