I stayed at the Room Mate Valentina hotel on Amberes (where there are several gay bars). I've not been to Mexico City, but have heard that local hotels may require (even hold on to) photo ID from any non-registered guest going up to a hotel room. I believe the way around that is to stay at a US based chain.
