I used to love PlanetRomeo. Unfortunately, if you attempt to access that site you are redirected to Hunqz.com. This site, to me at least, is almost incomprehensible. I spent an hour this morning trying to figure out how to access escorts in several locales that I am thinking of visiting - but, I have had no luck in reaching a page where you could choose a particular city. It wasn't long ago that you could access the "classic" version of PlanetRomeo but that no longer works. Perhaps I am not doing something right - and wondering if anyone could offer suggestions on how to "search" various cities on the new Hunqz? (Not trying to hijack this thread, but if a site in inoperable, I think others should know.)

If you are very careful, and if you practice "due diligence," you can sometimes find a bargain on Backpage. (I found a super hot (and cooperative) guy on BP when I was visiting Charlotte last year. Steamy hot.) Most of the time, BP is a bust, but not always.

Had a chance to visit this area recently, and was interested to see or experience some of what is available and advertised. Unfortunately few members here write about this large area, and there are hardly any reviews ever posted, so I thought it would be good to mention some notable sources and sites -- and places to possibly avoid.

Best sites I found for real and legitimate escorts in this area were:

Rentmen.com [mostly has European/American escorts currently visiting China and especially Hong Kong, but at least you see who it is, and in 95% of the cases, the information is accurate]
Planet Romeo (www.planetromeo) has an extensive and updated daily page reference to escorts and masseurs in China. Many visiting working men from Europe/US are familiar with this more European and world-wide site and put it to good use.

    For relaxing:
http://www.travelgayasia.com/ This site is terrific, seems to be constantly updated for major cities. I was in need of a good massage (not a rub and tug session) and found this site for Hong Kong massage spas (which there are many exclusively for gay men). My personal recommendation is for Spa 17 [http://www.spa17hk.com/] if you can book their master-masseur, Stanley.

This site gives you current places for spa treatments, saunas, bars etc. Many people make comments on the pros and cons of the advertisers and so it is constantly updated.

To avoid (except for eyeing for eye-candy)::
I learned the hard way the lesson of trusting sites that are operated from the Mainland (with branch offices in Hong Kong, for instance). They depend on photo models from throughout China who they lure to the cities for the promise of quick money. Many are definitely not escorts nor even trained in the bare minimum aspects of it; most have no knowledge whatsoever of any language except Mandarin (and only few would know Cantonese). They are also masters of "bait an switch" -- you make a booking for one guy and another guy from the site shows up at your door. So use with extreme caution:

    http://www.hkgaystar.com/
    http://www.chinagayescort.com/index.php?c=msg&ts=aboutus&
    http://www.lucas1069.com/

One word of caution from the above three (who as you can see, use or interchange the same models' photos) -- men from the mainland cannot travel freely to Hong Kong or Macau, but can come into these special areas for a limited time (many stay just across the border); once they enter, they can only stay so many days before they have to leave. The roster of "who's available" changes daily because of that.

In meeting them, I was told by a local man "Never give them your hotel room number! Always insist to meet them in the lobby." Reason is that once they have the hotel room, they can shake you down if you decide not to pay. If you see the wrong man appears in the reception area, you simply walk away. I was awaiting one escort from one of these agencies, and his look was so odd -- hotel reception would not let him come up (and I had hired others from PlanetRomeo who came to the room without a problem!)

On language, people in Hong Kong and Macau have a good to very good understanding of English; Mainlanders, much much less. If someone is well-educated, his English is fine but finding such a man also escorting is rare; you can find "users" on Planet Romeo who are on the fringe, local men who have excellent English (and often interested in hooking up with Europeans) seeking to know other gay men, and many of them are more than happy to share info about their area.

This guy was working "for an agency" that - in those days - specialized in fronting for military men in and around both St. Petersburg (often more sailors), and Moscow (soldiers). I met him on a 2-hour encounter, and found him not only extremely handsome and compliable (in every position), but cultured. This led to his leaving me his personal number, and expressing an interest in the opera (we had spoken about it while cleaning up), and once I got the tickets, I called. He suggested an overnight knowing that by the time we finished this LONG 4-act pera and had time to unwind, it would be way past midnight, and it was already winter. When I met him in the lobby of the hotel, I was stunned -- broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored dark suit and tie, he carried a shapka (fur hat) and nice overcoat (it was -15° F), and those sparkling shoes (and I do not have a foot fetish). This guy was 5'10" and about 190 lbs of pure muscle on a blond god with one of the nicest set of melons squeezed into his pants). But I digress..

He knew the production (which I did not), and was able to make sense of it -- a very difficult opera to begin with, no soaring lyrical parts, all in Russian, and set in WWI but switched out "Germans" for "Ukrainians" for political purposes when it was composed. He was able to introduce me to the "themes" -- and it was a gala performance (at the time US$500/seat); at the intermissions he ran into some of his other army ""buddies" also accompanying older gentlemen.

BTW nycman, back in the day, I met and often hired another solder, a captain in the Presidential Guard. He thought he was pulling my leg when he told me what his real job was... until I saw him a few times on TV behind Putin. He was one of the best escorts at the time, and loved to wear his military cap while "working."

I used to get tickets for some of productions at the MET, and then would try to find an escort who would appreciate the evening as much as I did. That was harder said than done. I brought one guy to a Puccini opera (not difficult to sit through -- as opposed to some of the German repertoire) and he was fidgeting, and twice I had to tell him to put the %#$ phone away. He literally walked out at the end of the 1st act -- and dared me to get him to return to the theatre (returning to the hotel, I politely but firmly cancelled the rest of the evening, handed him taxi fare for LaGuardia, and sent him on his way -- total jerk).

I have found more success with European escorts who - as stated above - are somehow more appreciative of opera as an art form, and not at all embarrassed or uncomfortable accompanying a client to the Met or some other venue. Better, they can sit after the production and actually discuss it with a some authority. I wish - Kevin Slater - I had known of your interest in the past. I imagine you would be a very enjoyable companion for "A Night at the Opera."

I once scored tickets for the Bolshoi Theatre for a lengthy 4-act Soviet opera by Sergei Prokofiev Semyon Kotko. It was a special production mounted before the theatre was to close for major renovations. I had two tickets, and checked around for an escort -- and hit the jackpot with a soldier who escorted on the side, and who loved the opera. He showed up at the hotel in a beautifully-tailored suit and very shiny shoes, quite a sight as he was a very muscular guy. He had obviously been to this theatre often in the past, knew the routine of checking coats and hats (and politely and considerately had an extra plastic bag for my hat and gloves); managed to get us free champagne and caviar between acts in one of the loge bars, and then took me to an after-hours club where we could relax with brandy and talk over the very difficult plot and music -- and then... the rest of the night was even more fantastic.

My guess is they were chosen less for their design aesthetic and more because they resisted the stains caused by flying lube and God knows what else.

adriano46 got a reaction from + Axiom2001 in Is it safe to hire and escort off of rent men
Given the lack of really good alternate sites for exploring escorts in many cities (and countries), Rentmen filled the gap after the demise of Rentboy. M4RentNow (M4RN) is not useful at all. I do know of the uselessness of the Rentmen reviews for the most part, but every now and then when you see a guy with a lot of 1--star reviews and statements about "outdated" photos... that is a great help.
I find that as a premium member of Rentmen, I can access contact info on a guy I am interested in, and 95% of the time it evolves into a pleasant, happy and enjoyable session. As for guys in LV -- one of my favorite's lives there, Antton Harri. He ages beautifully and is turning into a very voluptuous, versatile daddy https://rentmen.com/AnttonHarri.

Tipping a guy for a massage is normal for me (at least $10 or $25 if superior service over the price). Just my upbringing. My paretns instilled in all of us since we were children to always be generous in tipping people who provide a service.

Submitted a positive review of Marco who I did meet: terrific experience.

Evidently he heads to NYC for a few weeks but plans to relocate to DC in October... worth looking up!

adriano46 got a reaction from + DERRIK in China/Hong Kong
