I try to be philosophic about it, but it does piss me off.

I have a slightly different take on this. A no show gives you the precious gift of time….and leaves money in your pocket for a better event.

Strongly disagree. Just because I turn down a provider doesn't mean I don't hope they find someone who's willing to pay their price. Hence the "good luck." I'd rather have more active providers than fewer. And I may change my mind later.
One time, after I turned down a guy asking for 350, he made a remark that he doesn't negotiate. I just replied that he's an independent businessman and it's his prerogative to set his prices. He respected me for saying that.

I was asked once, and so I exaggerated my existing flaws, adding a few years, a few pounds, and describing my face as “almost healed”. He didn’t balk and when I showed up, he opened the door, and said “you’re much more attractive than you think”.

I don't disagree.  But I would rather say 'no, thank you - that is above my self-imposed  limit at the moment'.  I think that adding 'good luck', while perhaps well-intentioned, can be construed as slightly sarcastic or possibly, rude.

That is true for most of the escorts that have been around a while and who treat their clients fairly. 
It is the newer guys, many with lousy reviews on rentmen, who think they can command higher prices equal to the rates of escorts that have been around a while and have made a name for themselves with clients. 
The above is a major reason for the supposed shortage of clients.  Or, clients unwilling to pay inflated rates for almost every provider advertising.    

Scarcity runs the market, and, the market is heavily saturated with escorts at this time. Being that my professional life was in international banking, I know it to be a matter of fact that there "ain't no such thing" as "free money"; the "bill", if you will, has to be footed by someone in the end, or, as Louis XV put it, succinctly, "After me, the flood". Sadly, the day will come for the boys in the business that the proposition of "make me an offer" will be  the "going rate". 

A few years there was another scary incident involving a provider and a forum member. The forum member had disclosed the identity of the provider in PM to other forum members who wanted to know. That precedent seems to be a good solution here. 

Where are you finding these rates?  Rentmen advertisers ask for a lot more than that when you contact them.  
This has happened with me and several friends who find the increased rates (some rates doubled) and insistence on a deposit (in advance) ridiculous.  
No wonder there is a shortage of clients.   We are tired of getting ripped off.  

Yes, the quality of the merchandise has declined. This fall, I hired two guys I wanted to try out, but both of their photos were pre pandemic and showed muscle they lost during the interim.
Luckily, my libido cooled down during the interim as well. I was thinking of visiting a market this weekend, then decided I'd rather read by the fireplace. Maybe getting old has its advantages.

Look man. You did what you had to do.
Nobody wants to be a tattle tale; nobody wants to be that "snitch" or be accused of being the one who slandered. When it comes to this you HAD to. It's super easy to say, "man if that was me I'd have knocked his ass out and triumphed back down the stairs". It's easy to tell you that as someone whose just hearing the story, and make you feel small for reporting him. Fact is: most folks wouldn't do as they say they would.
"High school" machismo cannot last forever; it's unsustainable and those who choose to take that road end up with felonies, records, huge fines, and several years taken off their freedom.
Compared to the world of straight escorting, gay escorts have gotten away with murder for way too long. I'm glad there's a place like this that can help enforce some standards.
