  1. Getting to Soldier Field is not easy for suburbanites. I’ve never been there, so can’t comment on parking, but the commuter rail stations (Union and Ogilvie) are about three miles away. A bit of a hike, and only worse in Chicago weather, and under the influence of alcohol. Arlington Park is an established stop on the Metra line out of Ogilvie, right next to the place. Wouldn’t be a long ride from the city, about 40 to 60 minutes or so depending on stops. Once it stops at Arlington Park, you’re there. Get off the train, and walk a few feet onto the property. Managing the crowds will require expanding the platform a little east, and further west (plenty of land), and working with Metra on special schedules and extra cars like they do with Ravinia concerts, just on a larger scale. There is also a freeway along side Arlington Park. I hope they’ll consider creating designated ramps for entering and exiting the stadium so less traffic backs up on the surface streets around the stadium. However, I don’t think the state has any appetite to use public money for that, nor should they since since finances are in shambles due to rich pensions promised, that are under funded. Too bad states can’t declare bankruptcy, but I digress. The other drawback with Soldier is seating, or specifically not enough seats to host a super bowl. Chicago would finally get to host a Super Bowl at a new stadium. I’m very close to the new location. Just two stops away on Metra in a neighboring suburb. I’m in favor of it.
  2. Will be interesting to see how the Bears’ move to the suburbs plays out. Mayor Lightfoot wants them to stay in the city, but I don’t think that will happen.
  3. +1 Why are so many people afraid to do that? Shouldn’t complain. Able to get filled up while others still in line. Or, they’re afraid to go around the car pumping gas when the car at the front has left.
  4. The big guy reminds me of Nick Pulos
  5. Consider them all liked! Really liked.
  6. At the Shop and Save on Monday, the rye, and no yeast sourdough bread I like was 25% higher than when I was there a couple of months ago.
  7. Don’t know about escorting per se, but Felix Fox’s Instagram stories sometimes have captions suggesting he would welcome companionship.
  8. Growing up, most of our back yard was a garden. Potatoes, celery, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, corn, strawberries, rhubarb, plus a pear, plum, peach, and apple tree. My father was out there everyday in the summer, and when things ripened, it was eaten, or my mother put it away for later by freezing, or more often canning. She also baked using a lot of the fruit. One of her favorite things to do, and she was a great baker. My folks didn’t make a lot of money, but all six of us ate well.
  9. You’re good guys! I was hospitalized back in June, later released with a walker, and quickly learned it’s not easy to get around if not able bodied.
  10. A few years ago, while I was still in my late 50s, was given the advise to start considering a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) where I could transition from independent living (when still able enjoy the amenities), to additional care as needed. A family member lives in one, has a 2 bedroom apartment, pool, exercise facility, 4 restaurants, 2 or 3 lounges that serve cocktails and appetizers, bus service, a convenience store, and some other stuff. It’s like a resort. In my 60s now, and think about it more often. I haven’t begun to check out prices yet, but as the population ages, more of CCRCs will no doubt open to accommodate the growth.
  11. Pre-pandemic, for those in independent living, it’s like living in an apartment building, or private homes. Visitors freely able to come and go (no pun intended).

  13. Not a bad pic in the bunch.
  14. Most often visitors to Chicago stay in the city, so anywhere between one and two hours, depending on traffic to get from my home to their hotel. Last few times however, I used points and stayed at a hotel in the city to avoid driving there and back for the appointment. I appreciate when providers stay near ORD. I once flew down to MIA for a meeting, and since it was January, stayed for several more days before going back to the cold.

  16. Costco’s Kirkland brand finely ground Colombian coffee brewed in my little four cup Cuisinart coffee maker. Mileta coffee filters work best.

  19. If you’re still working, see if your company will deposit any bonus, or non-recurring checks into an account separate from where your regular paychecks are deposited.
  20. Yesterday, $3.89 for premium at a Costco in NW suburb of Chicago.
