I like the attention to detail - the Union Flag cushions are the right way up. Not the only detail I appreciate, of course.

There was a time when you could rely on sub-editors to come up with witty headlines (and these days screen captions) but I have the feeling that more often than not they occur by accident these days. My favourite (and clearly not accidental) came when in the Scottish Premier League, Inverness Caledonian Thistle convincingly defeated [Glasgow] Celtic. The [since repeated headline] was 'Super Cally go Ballistic, Celtic were Atrocious'.

A reasonable suggestion, but my reading of comments in the various threads about him is that the payoff is worth the risk of waiting to see if Plan A comes off.

That's how I read it too, and sufficiently veiled that unless he was alert to such language the escort would take it as a serious compliment.

Yes, I know how people in the US spell those words, my comment on tonne was on the same level as the rest of the petty points I made about the fig newton joke (we don't even have fig newtons here but I got the point). In Australia we wouldn't refer to metric tons (or metric tonnes) because the term would always mean 1000kg here, not 2240lb, we would just write tonnes. When I was learning Chinese I always used simplified characters (I was lazy) and I know they are used in the PRC but not ROC or Hong Kong [Xiang Gang in Mandarin] (and they only affect writing, not speaking, so no one speaks in simplified characters).

Technically not but close enough, and as I said yesterday in another context, that's beside the point, it's a joke. If you aren't aware that a newton is a measure of force, it's easy to focus on the ton part (it would be tonne in SI, but who's looking at that). If the figs are falling the force in question would be gravity which causes an acceleration of 9.8m/s² not 1m/s². Even that much explanation is too much.

There is a big assumption in this. Escorting on an hourly basis may well be more profitable but that assumes that hirers will be available and willing to hire. Being booked for a scene or a number of scenes in a day provides a guaranteed return for the day, escorting only privides guarantees one hour at a time.

This afternoon the radio station I was listening to discussed the subject of nicknames and how they aren't as imaginative as they used to be. One caller told of a school mate who had an accident and lost several toes when they were caught in the chain of his motor bike. Thereafter he was called Milk because he lacked toes.

I assumed that the scenes were staged, but I could imagine myself being in them and it not being staged. The idea of Tyler acting out the scene with me (the not even slightly hot dude) was believable, so I related to the act that was being played out. Outside that, the real Tyler and Ace .... Yum.

Not stupid, Zip. Sarcasm, irony and nuance are not universally appreciated, even by those of us outside the lower 48. Proximity to the 49th parallel tends to increase it for some reason. (Oh dear, I'm stereotyping!) Was Juan taking offence or playing along with your mock surprise? Who knows? I have my thoughts on the matter, and I'll sit back enjoying those thoughts by myself.

The point is, the airlines don't pay for their fuel with the $80 fares, they cover the fixed costs, including fuel, with the premium fares and the full-fare economy seats. They don't need to sell the last few seats to cover their costs but selling them at super cheap rates boosts their income. Your good or bad fortune if you buy one of them is that cabin crew don't know whether you paid full-fare or discount. But they will know if you are a high level frequent flyer and most likely treat you accordingly.

Having first seen him on here as one of the co-conspirators of @TylerandAce, I may not believe such protestations, but I'm willing to let him try that line!
