No doubt having him all wrapped up is pleasing for many posters here! We just need to get to DC or Memphis to collect the package. After last year's snow débacle, I doubt I will be in DC next January, but best wishes to those who will be!

Funny in wry sort of way, Junkee published a piece on old white men huffing off in 2016 and crying into their wheaties about how difficult life is for them. The examples in the piece are Australian but there's enough about them for you to get the idea and perhaps think of your own parallels. Speaking of assholes, 2016 was yet another year of spectacular Old White Man fails. Spat dummies* littered the year as one Old White Man after another threw all their toys out of their cots*, took their footballs and their mixed metaphors, and flounced into the public spotlight to sook about how mean the world is to Old White Men everywhere. And look, Old White Men have a point. Not funny in itself, but this deserves to be in a humour thread. Vale Andrew Sachs, best known as Manuel (from Barcelona), who died on 23 November. Born in 1930 in Berlin, his family fled to the UK in 1938. He had an extensive career on radio, TV and the stage. He had suffered from dementia for the last four years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Melody Long.

The first half is my point exactly. I'm sufficiently old school that there are times when I think it appropriate to wear a jacket.

One of the reasons for dressing up when you fly is so you don't need to fit those items in your luggage. My heavy overcoat in Canberra and Sydney last January (42°C) looked distinctly out of place, on arrival in DC, not so much. The flight attendant on the flight from Sydney commented on my coat and tie. (I know, I'm old.)

I've heard something similar, but I don't recall to whom it was attributed. It may well have been Samuel Clemens.

... And 'Marjoribanks' is pronounced 'Marchbanks'.

I don't have a tablet, but I had noticed my Samsung phone does that for puntuation marks you could hold dowm the full stop key. Quick test of one letter and doing it brings up variations on that letter, so not just Ap**e.
