I think this goes back to the comment above by @OZP on whether the masseur and business owner are the same person. Traditionally in the USA, tips go to the waiters as their wages (sadly) and the business owners get the payment for food. Similarly for local masseurs who don't own their businesses, they get tips while their employers the the full payment for the massage. Now for those Masseurs on RentMasseurs or RentMen, that would be different because they're both the business owner and masseur. And if they're trying to provide bad service because you didn't tip them last time despite them getting the full advertised payment, I'd be happy to switch masseurs.

The US is tip-crazy.
Tipping is supposed to be a thank you for services above and beyond the.standard.
Unfortunately like restaurants, masseurs in Spas are underpaid so your "tip" is much of their paycheck.
A private masseur will charge far more and doesn't need to give a cut to anyone else. So for very standard service no tip is required. Anything above and beyond:  the provider should be compensated with 20% to 25% depending on how far beyond the service went. Or round up to escort rates ($200 -$300) if sexual serviced were added to the session.
If I get a great massage and an exciting happy ending from someone who I am attracted to,  I will tip generously as a way of opening the conversation about the availability of additional escort services for the next meet.

No tip. You don't tip people who set their own prices and keep 100% of the money.

Yes, I'm in Tokyo this week. I specifically got a hotel that's in Shinjuku, which is where they gayborhood is supposed to be. My hotel is also within walking distance from 24 Kaikan. Also, a lot of these "masseurs" aren't even real masseurs. They are escorts in the guise of a masseur, so what am I tipping for? Their escorting capacity?
