Stag is set for a "soft" reopening this Friday, May 14th. Oregon's governor, "Shut-Down" Katie Brown, has loosened the screws on restaurants and bars, allowing currently a 25% capacity, so Stag will be limited to 30 patrons for now. New owners and management has sunk a ton of effort into an updated remodel, redoing the stage and seating areas. The new manager, Ali, (known as Aladdin in his previous stripper life), tells me he has 25 performers lined up and ready to go opening night- and has altered the focus a bit. A more main-stream, less "alt-emo" type of dancer is the new focus, I'm curious how that will be experienced. While the interior work is ongoing, the club will be closed on Mondays until more capacity is allowed later on this summer. so, six nights a week, and new staffing, might need a break-in period, but we will see.

Silverado, having a kitchen and ground-floor dining area open to the outside, had customers the few times that I've driven past. While the stripper stage in the basement has meant that I'm not yet comfortable attending, I'll have to check the activities soon, once the vaccinations pick up.

"Sure, it'll be OK to move all your retirement stuff over to us, won't be any issue!" As I relocated to Portland in the late 90's and started a new job at Portland General Electric. " It's part of Enron, you know, you'll be making beaucoup bucks on that, and besides, what could go wrong?"

For me, the last 2 1/2 years have been a nightmare of family health issues, death of my partner, being forced to move house, and the job turning sour due to the Covid pandemic - the business was classified as "emergency service provider', so no time off, and staff having to self-quarantine at random times. Thought I'd be able to make it to 67, but now I have a count-down pad in my cubicle, with 172 weeks and counting till I hit 62 and say byebye to working in Oregon, and retiring to Flt Lauderdale and my Ukranian boyfriend. The money's gonna be a little tight at first, but trading cold rains and anarchist craziness for drinks at the beach and a warm soul next to me in bed needs to come about much sooner than later.

My perception was different. I expected the people who attended the pool party would be similar to men I'd see in a gay bar or gay lounge with male dancers (which is quite diverse here in NYC age-wise and body-wise.) Overall everyone was friendly and easy to talk to.

This week I was working in Missouri, and once finished the plan was to spend a couple days with a friend in southern MO before coming back to OR over the weekend. Leaving the work site, I texted my friend to check in, and found out that he was in the hospital with a broken leg, and therefore unable to entertain visiting gentlemen callers- too bad. Since I was already in central MO, I told him I'd head on down to Poplar Bluff so we could at least have a visit in person. While chatting he mentioned that the Illinois casinos were opening again, and Boxers n Briefs was due to reopen this weekend too. I said I was heading up there to fly home, and would he mind if I headed up there early and check things out, he said no ( he worked there until a year ago) so that's just what I did.

I wasn't expecting to have anything open during this trip, and had some trepidation about a large indoor crowd. I decided that, since my plans were already shot, I'd play it by ear, and if it felt unsafe, I'd turn around and walk out. So, I drove out to East St Louis. First thing on my arrival, saw about 20 cars in the parking lot, a bad sign to me. Social distancing, mebbe not. Went up to the door, checking out the inside- virtually empty. Turns out there was a private swingers party going on in the curtained area next to the stage- there were only a few bar/stripper customers. Friday night cover of $10, and I'm in the door.

First surprise- tho I had a mask, the manager said it was my choice to wear it or not. All the staff had masks; dancers, bartender, manager, owner. Of the half dozen customers, I was the only one masked, an the private party group had no masks also. They had rearranged the tables to provide distancing- instead of sitting up against the bar or the stage, a row of tables was placed next to the bar, and a second row of tables were set up, with chairs set at every other table- providing a comfortable distance between patrons and dancers. Under the circumstances, this seemed pretty effective at spacing, put me at ease that they had put some thought into the arrangement. Unfortunately, not sitting up at the bar means the you have to go stand in line for your drinks- a one-way maze with spacing marks on the floor to go up to the bar station to get drinks. Clear shields in the maze and at the bar kept order. However, if the place were more full, getting drinks may get problematic. As in the past, drinks are no bargain, $6.50 for a bottle of been, but there were specials listed on the bar board.

I was not surprised that none of the familiar faces were dancing on Friday night. With it being first night back, there were a half-dozen dances. Talking with them, it seems most had been relatively new hires over the last winter, and laid off in March when things shut. The guys were young, thin twink types, only one being over 23 it seemed. They were expecting some returnees over the next week, but frankly the number of customers would not have supported many more dancers.
As I said, twink was the word of the night, not any muscle, all Caucasian boys. The routine was unchanged- a fifteen-minute all nude dance on the bar or stage, then work the room till next time up. The lap dance areas and private room were also unchanged, except that both the dancer and client were required to be fully masked the whole time in back, and had to lather up with hand sanitizer before going back and upon leaving the booth/private room. Costs were unchanged- $75 for 15 mins lap dance, $200 for 15 mins private room.

The guys - while its initially weird watching nekkid guys with their faces covered, you get used to it soon enough. You can't really get close enough to have a conversation, and the mask makes ever harder for us senior citizens, but they're to be watched and tipped, and they find a way to get a foot close enough to you to get the ones and fives in the sock. Two of the guys were standouts in my book- Liam is a blond somewhat-muscled Texan with an ass that was well-formed, and completely hairless ( yes I checked every crack and crevice ), said he'd done some porn in the past and was friends with Brent Corrigan. Interesting conversation and an inspired, athletic lap dance. It's possible he may have been working at Tin Room in Dallas in the past, he seemed oddly familiar to me. My top star of the night was Spencer, an 18 year old thin (28 inch waist) dark-haired chocolate eyed beauty. Friendly and intelligent, he made himself my favorite by remembering the points of conversation after working the room and coming back to chat me up some more. A truly inspired lap dance- I maybe fell a wee bit in lust with this charmer- but yes, he's young enough to be my grandson! There's also a curly- haired blond with a furry bubble but and biggest dick of the night, and one kid who looked to be 15 years old- I'm sure he was legal, but that was hands-off for me!

I left at 11:30 - early flight and all. By then there were about 15 customers, might have had room to fit eight to ten more, that's about all. For only a days notice, this was a good experience, but since I'm no longer doing on-site training trips, I'll probably not be returning- if you're already in the area, its worth going across the river, but its not enough on its own for a destination. I wish Bob and the guys the best of luck in keeping the place open, would be a shame to lose this "asset" to the male stripper community
