Can't today's theater-goers put old works in context?
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to a topic in Live Theater & Broadway
No. They cannot. Just read any theatre message board and the endless posts of 'problematic' issues within shows seems neverending. It's not that problems don't exist within the construction of these shows, but that a young generation of theatre lovers have little grasp of the time period an original show was written, as well as concepts like satire, irony and camp. The hand-wringing alone over the new production of Some Like It Hot was just.... Constant. And what the show ultimately ended up as was this blurry with a very (very) carefully plotted ending that isn't so much satisfying as it is supremely safe and utterly void of any real heart. Totally anodyne. -
Victoria Clark is giving a beautiful performance as Kimberly. Bonnie Milligan as the Aunt is doing what she does best: Giving you great comedy and showstopping vocals. Much like Spelling Bee, this is a small show with a lot of heart. I hope it can survive the winter doldrums.

Cancun has beautiful water and beach, based on geographical location. However, it's not what I would call real Mexico, as authenticity of experience is more like being back in the States. Cancun attracts a large number of tourists who go to the trouble of getting their passport just to bubble themselves in an all-inclusive and eat hamburgers. If you just want an easy weekend, it fits the bill. Easy in and out. Quick immigration process. Lots of english spoken. If you want something a little more unique, I'd suggest what @CuriousByNaturesaid. Cancun just lost their Ritz-Carlton, but it freshly renovated and is now called the Kempinski. Great property that kept nearly everything it had as a Ritz. Lower prices. If I had to choose a favorite AI, I'd recommend the Hyatt ZIva. It's got the best location of any hotel in Cancun if you're a beach person. Huge gym. Massive pool complex.

Any major hub is going to have problems, some handling WX/MX issues better than others. LIke today, DFW is absolutely fucked on the weather-front. They just don't have enough de-icing equipment to get things turned quickly. I saw this Texas cold front coming a few days ago and switched my flight away from DFW. ORD on the other hand could handle this with their eyes closed. AA has turned CLT into a hub that's taking on a lot more traffic, so delays go up. The takeaway here is that you can't realistically always avoid delays or cancellations. You can, however, be prepared in the event they happen and have a pivot ready to go.

This reminds me of old-school theatre friends who still say 'gypsy robe ceremony' or 'gypsy' (in regards to an actor who's touring or going from show to show). Someone recently said it in mixed company (younger/older) and you could have cut the politically-correct tension with a knife. Like a good Catholic, I quickly changed the subject matter to the weather.

This is a good idea. Cupula could easily work for a small group, as well as provide individual room privacy so everyone can come and go as they please. It's also a short walk to the bar scene.

LA Chinatown Restaurant Recommendations?
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to + Lucky's topic in What's Cooking
Agree about Chow. It's been there forever for good reason. Pearl River Deli is great. Jade Wok. Zen Mei. Phoenix Bakery for the really good stuff -
I contend that It doesn't usually matter what an 'I'm into' states. That's not a free pass for most escorts. If it's a kink, you'd be smart to discuss it beforehand so you're both on the same page.

Broadway Musical: "New York New York"
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to + WilliamM's topic in Live Theater & Broadway
Sorry, gotta edit this one. Susan Stroman. She's also (still) working on getting a Crazy For You revival back on Broadway. And it's not Colton Ryan, but Conor Ryan who's the current Christian in the Moulin Rouge national tour. Colton is an entirely different fella who's doing NY NY. -
Ask beforehand if it's something he's into. In the moment is never a good idea with an escort.

They're selling this hard as the 'gay real housewives,' but there's zero about this show that's glamorous, wealthy or fun. And it doesn't help that Todrick Hall has a terrible reputation in various communities. This won't help. This is quite a bit like when Logo tried The A-List. I can't see this lasting more than a season.

Ronzoni says Basta! about this pasta!

Pastina was a staple in my house growing up. It was made for whomever had a stomach ache, as it was bland and easy to digest. -
Ridiculing is far different than absurdist humor. I was firmly on the side of the absurd (as per usual).

I think it would be comically amazing if this guy shows up wearing a t-shirt with muscles printed on it.

A bit off topic, but Hooboy and I used to have a nickname for Club Houston... 'Grandma's' I hear they just finished a remodel and that it's a nice new design. It was never beat-up to begin with, but it's nice to see the owners keeping up with it. Agree about the crowd. They're fun and ready to play. I was thinking of making a trip to Houston soon and visiting, as I haven't been back to Club Houston since before COVID.

Not sure if the design is still the same, but Steamworks Chicago used to have a perfect gloryhole setup. Guys getting blown are on a upper riser with a forward view of five screens playing porn, while lower are the holes, allowing the other guy to get the job done without having to kneel or bend over. Basically, they're ergonomical gloryholes. Everyone stands up. Good memories

This is sage advice.

Financial domination doesn't have to include physical or verbal domination. And yes, you can find a trustworthy escort who understands this kink and can play along accordingly. Do your homework. Be super clear about expectations and how far you're wanting to take the scene.

Quite right. For some, it wins out much more quickly. Bitterness tends to weather a person. This isn't really a discussion about looks, as clearly Alam is keeping himself together. What we're talking about are people's shitty behaviors because they feel protected by anonymity. We can all be better people. It just takes stopping for a moment while you're IN the moment.
-
And the way you stated it and handled it in this post was mature and straight-forward. You didn't go for the low blow. You didn't act like a petulant child. I'm fine with all of that (and sorry he stood you up, twice). Like I tend to tell people, it's not what you say, but how you say it. You kept it classy sir. Most of the people on this thread who are taking the cheapest shots haven't seen him, nor have they even scheduled time with him.

Correcto. Escorting in the truest sense of the word is highly skilled job. Far too many people think it's just fuck-money-go-repeat. Sure, it can be that, but that's the kind of grind that quickly takes a toll. You can be the sexiest guy with the best body and biggest dick out there, but if you can't figure out how to verbalize and connect with someone for time you're not in the bedroom, you've painted yourself into a corner and are really only good for one thing. That one thing doesn't always keep people coming back again and again.
-
Your expectations aren't out of line, but clearly research on picking the right escort might need some tweaking in the future. The sentiments you shared here, share with future guys you want to spend time with. Be super straightforward about your wants and needs. A quality guy is going to appreciate that and make sure you have an experience, not just a fuck. In the beginning, it's some trial and error. Not every escort is able to quickly form bonds with their clients. That's a real talent.

I really thought this was going to be a discussion about people who constantly cough through theatre and symphony shows. I was wrong.
