I am friends with a couple around the corner, originally from Germany. Some of the nuances of pronunciation escape me. I watch their dog fairly often, and he responds to "here!" (German "Hier") much better if I try to put the German pronunciation on it. The wife says English was her worst subject in school, but apart from a small accent, I've found it perfect. She occasionally is unfamiliar with expressions; she told me her dog senses when I'm coming to their house, then was embarrassed because she thought I might take it that he could smell me several houses away :-)

I prefer "Batman Begins" over "The Dark Knight", but I'm a sucker for origin stories. I called a friend, a huge Batman fan, from the theater parking lot opening night, to tell him to drop everything and go see it. I never understood the hating on Katie Holmes as Rachel; I think Maggie Gyllenhall did a better job, but Katie did the role justice. I'd read that Bowie played Tesla in "The Prestige", so I wasn't surprised, but the friend I saw it with was surprised, very pleasantly so. :-)

I bought an electro-stim unit, I wasn't as happy as I thought I'd be. Even at the lowest setting it was too much pain for me, and it might be a cheap unit since after a while, even the lowest setting seemed higher than I could handle before. And since getting a pacemaker I won't use it. Any market for barely-used ones?
