OMG, RUN Away from this one.  
He has been advertising for years (decades?) and is notorious for not delivering.  
Deposits, even $50, are red flags.  Not dispositive but they should make you think twice.  Search for Brett on this message board, and I am sure you will come up with more red flags.  Hard NO

My impression was that they scooped up a bunch of addicts who would do anything for "a bump" of meth. I may be wrong, but that was the vibe I picked up.

I merely tried to figure out what he meant, because I've never seen that phrase before. I think he meant that he comes off as very "straight/butch acting" even though he's gay. 😎
