  1. That's a sugar maple I planted 13 years ago as a sapling from my cottage in the Laurentians. The bushes surrounding it also came from the lake. The ones on the right I bought at a nursery. A weeping cypress and cedar.
  2. The first pic is of my gazebo which I designed myself. The second is of my garage which I also designed. If you look hard you can see my potting shed to the left of the garage amidst the bushes I planted. It has a black roof which is all that is visible. All my outbuildings are of wood since my house is 160 years old and in stone. It is all harmonious.
  3. I'll try. I'm not very good at that.
  4. By the time I saw this thread my day is pretty well over. I did have a nice Saturday. Did a little writing ( I have a regular column in a local newspaper), went in and out to my deck as the weather changed frequently from sunshine to rain, did a little shopping for dinner, firmed up plans for meeting a new escort tomorrow who's visiting from the west coast, and finally some laundry after dinner. Going to bed early as tomorrow will be more strenuous. ( in a good way) .
  5. I wish that photo had been taken on a windy day.
  6. Ever since I had my own house starting in 1978, I have been interested in the landscaping surrounding it. I have always done it myself and used design principles I learned at art school and a couple of years of studying architecture. I then choose plants, shrubs and trees which blend in well with their surroundings and are appropriate to the climate and growing zone I live in. The results I have obtained are very gratifying and I love watching everthing grow from year to year. Since I planted virtually everything on my property since I moved in 14 years ago, it constantly amazes me how fast my plantings have grown. They have completely altered the way my house looks from when I moved in. So much more inviting.
  7. Dresden and other parts of East Germany, which were communist, tended to rebuild by restoring the old look. In western Germany, which was heavily subsidized by the US through the Marshall Plan, the approach was to go modern. You see it in Berlin where it is striking between the two parts of the city, east and west. I doubt very much that Lahanai will be rebuilt restoring the old look. The moneyed interests will want to maximize their investments and "new" sells.
  8. The scope of this tragedy is still unfolding as news reports are being updated. I don't think the term holocaust in terms of the destruction to Lahanai is an exageration. This is going to take years to recover from and even then some will not get back the life they had before. These destructive wildfires are going to have to be anticipated and steps taken to avert them in the future. There are lessons to be learned if we want to take the effort to do so.
  9. And lists PNP which is also listed by his client in last review
  10. I figured the water would be shallower around PEI. In the Bay of Fundy where I once swam in August, it is very cold, about 54f the day I went.
  11. Unlike the Cape, the waters off NS are too cold to swim in. I guess PEI is warmer but never been there.
  12. I took that pic as a subtle message that watersports was a specialty of his.
  13. Nice to hear even white sharks have some buddies. And they have come to Canada. Omg.
  14. I was in Hawaii decades ago with my new boyfriend. It was sort of our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights in Maui at Ka'anapali Beach and drove into Lahanai for lunch at Hamburger Mary's where we met a couple we knew from Europe. We also met another gay couple on the beach where we were staying from Ottawa. It was such a small world in 1984. The banyan tree I remember was near our hotel in Waikiki. At the Royal Hawaiian Hotel I believe. It was very famous from some radio program from the 1930's. Under the banyan tree. I'm sorry to hear of this tragedy. It was such a nice paradise.
  15. I've always wanted to meet him. We texted back and forth before the pandemic but haven't been back since. He was great at communicating and seemed sincere. He was also open about his personal life which I appreciated as it made him seem more relateable.
  16. Boy, those were the early days. Are there any streets named after him?
  17. Most people over the course of two years will suffer from one or more of those side effects in any event. Headaches? Diarrhea? Fatigue? So how do they know it is caused by their taking PreP? In those stats, is the condition chronic if on PreP?
  18. Some of the best stonemasons came from Quebec. They were hired by the gentry who wanted the best in workmanship. Montreal has probably the largest collection of stone mansions in any city in North America. What nationality was your great grandfather? Before his family came to Quebec?
  19. Eleven and a half inches and he only bottoms. Give me a break!
  20. Always wanted to go to Turkey whenever I thought about it but never did. A friend of mine, now long deceased, went in 2002 and had a blast. I was house sitting his 4 dogs back in Montreal and got a call from VISA. They wanted to know about all the charges that had started appearing on his credit card from Istanbul. I said, oh that's just my friend so I guess he's having a good time.
  21. I would drink his pee but at the end he said he doesn't drink his own pee. Pity.
  22. I would classify my crimes as crimes of passion. It wouldn’t cut it with a judge but I try to avoid them.
