  1. I'm curious about why the military decided to produce this video. Were young naval officers getting a bad reputation in towns around bases?
  2. The more physically endowed one pays in a different way.
  3. Look at who’s taken to traditional gender norms while I was looking the other way. (I kid, of course. )
  4. BTW, this is the video that the article's screencaps were drawn from. It's a 1966 military video called "How to Succeed with Brunettes." The video starts with a Goofus and Gallant style clip on what not to do: Narrator: (sarcastically) Why open the door? Sure, treat her as an equal. Women like that.
  5. I find myself doing this--for older men (and women), families, pregnant women, and those who just look like they've had a long day.
  6. Yoo hoo, @quoththeraven . This gets tricky during a long walk along city blocks because the couple have to keep switching positions. I was told that in pre-1993 NYC, men started walking on the side away from the curb so as to protect the woman from muggers who lay in wait in the alleys.
  7. Thanks. I'll try the olive oil spray. The margarine spray wasn't meant to be healthier. It's just easier to use small amounts of it than it is for butter. You make a good point about the effect of artificial sweeteners on the body, but isn't several hundred calories of sugar just as harmful?
  8. Mikey and I are clones on this issue! I am the same way about having food that's off limits; I gained a lot of weight when I got into that mentality. I'm also the same way about finding a "good enough" option--a "grilled cheese" sandwich with a small high fiber English muffin and some light margarine spray will satisfy me and keep me full longer.
  9. WW is great. Their new program deemphasizes calorie counting and encourages you to eat more good stuff that will help you get lean—fish, turkey etc. It’s a great sign that the pounds are coming off. Best of luck as you move forward on this goal!
  10. I am so sorry, Avalon. Please be careful. Opiates can mask depression for a few weeks but after that, you'll feel no better than you did to begin with. Once addicted, people often do desperate things like forge scripts and get arrested as a result. And for some, the effects are fatal.
  11. BTW, when I talk about revealing things about themselves, I'm thinking of something like this. Let's say this occurs after the client was away for a while and had to reschedule an appt. Client: I have a bit of a Groucho Marx complex when it comes to interacting with people. Therapist: Does that apply to me? Client: ??? Therapist: [Apparently realizes how insecure he sounds and tries to rephrase it.] I mean, do you tend to reject, uh, institutions that are willing to have you?
  12. Yes, "frustrating" is a better word. When you talk about the therapeutic relationship, it sounds like you're talking about something that involves more two-way communication than traditional analysis.
  13. Not me. I'm as vain as ever.
  14. The most important factor is the therapist's skill and how well you work with him. The degree is less important, especially if you don't need meds. Also, keep in mind that MDs are more expensive.
  15. Does anyone today see an analyst 4-5 times a week?? BTW, I haven't done a survey, but my feeling is that a lot of therapists use a hodgepodge of techniques--some psychotherapy here, some CBT there. The most disturbing aspect of old-school therapy is idea that the therapist has to be tabula rasa. The problem is that, like everyone else, therapist end up giving away more about themselves than they intend to. Those revaluations take on more significance than they should just because no other information is available.
  16. No one except Walker1 thinks I'm cute when I'm attracted?
  17. Yep, almost all psychiatrists are trained to do psychopharmacology and then do additional analysis training
  18. How I thought it was going to be: Actual me:
  19. This turns out to be a problem. My advice: Go with a plain one.
  20. Brian, I'm sad for you and for Greg's family. Your account of Greg's last weeks is really moving. It sounds like you really brought cheer and hope to him in the last years of his life. Try to see it from the wife's perspective though. She had been with him for many years, and after he dies, she suddenly learns that he's sending money to several men. That has to be really hard.
  21. The Persian breeder introduced them.
  22. I just doing this--distributing meals at a home for the blind and a few other things. A lot depends on what's available in your city.
  23. I'm not into porn stars, but Diego Sans is very handsome. I just looked up Belami. I noticed that some of their stars were marked with "omibod" and was curious about what it meant. So I clicked on "Casper Ships," who happened to be on chat. Um guys. He is literally stick thin with straight shoulder length hair, like a 12 y.o. female model. I can understand how guys who like a more feminine look would think this is beautiful, but as a straight woman, I find this to be a huge turnoff.
  24. Makes sense. They're living 3 or 4 to a room and barely have the time to shower and shave.
  25. Yes, I noticed that too. It's really sad that working-class people have to put up with this crap.
