There are lots of reasons to get inked, not all of them down to impulsivity. I've got quite a few, all commemorating something and all carefully planned in advance. I think they suit some people and that there's a big difference between a poorly executed tattoo, which will always look bad, and something artistic. As with everything, it really boils down to personal choice and taste.

I'd arranged to see a provider when I visited San Francisco, planned a few days before and confirmed the night before.
