No idea but "short illness" made me think possibly COVID. There's still a random element to who it takes out quickly. He was the first dancer I met at the Gaiety. I think everyone's memories of "the good old days" for hooking up are clouded a bit by the fact that in general, younger people have more options. From his limited descriptions of his medical issues over the past couple of years, he sure sounded like a candidate for a stint in a skilled nursing facility, but they may have been afraid to put him in one for fear he might catch it.
