  1. I have eaten kangaroo, ostrich, and reindeer.

The owner of a French restaurant near me in CA used to make sure he had reindeer on the menu right before Christmas and rabbit just before Easter. Perverse booger. The frog legs there were excellent.

A dive bar/pool hall in Chicago used to be known for it's O-Burger (Ostrich). It was good! But it's so low-fat it tended to be on the dry side.

Dad took occasional deer hunting trips so we'd have venison on years when he got lucky.

I've had gator in FL but it was sorta like "while you're here anyway...".

Goat is common in meat counters in latino neighborhoods. It's sort of a gamey lamb.

  2. I make it, the dog unmakes it, and round and round we go.

Our old family dog drove my mom nuts this way for 18 years. She'd make her bed and leave for work, then the dog would jump up and pull back the covers so he could arrange the pillows to his liking. Mom would complain to anyone who would listen. ALL OF US knew better than to suggest she close the bedroom door.

I make my bed when I change the sheets but otherwise I don't bother.

  3. For a short trip I carry as little as possible. If it's just a couple of days I'll likely just use a backpack. If the overhead bins are full it will easily fit under the seat in front of me. When the plane lands, I'm up and out. Since I typically walk at a faster clip than most 'murricans waddle I'm usually in the rental car and hitting the road by the time my fellow travelers get to baggage claim.

For a longer trip, I'll typically ship a box via UPS to either my destination hotel or to a relative I'll be visiting, and ship it back the night before my flight.

  4. Ridiculous!

There's a lot of ridiculous in the real estate business. And outright incompetence.

When I bought my house in CA I went through THREE signings of the closing documents because the lender kept saying the title company hadn't supplied the original. I have no doubt they actually did. On the third go-round, we all agreed we would NOT use a black pen because that's probably what was messing up the electronic document handling system. I showed up with a purple Sharpie in my pocket. o_O

The lady at the title company was kind and apologetic as all get out. "It's not us!" I reassured her I already knew that. By then I'd talked with several insurance agents who warned that my lender was known for being difficult to work with. (Wish someone had told ME that in advance! LOL)

  5. PSP also has bulk trash pick-up weeks every Spring and Fall.

Here, the "every spring and fall" service is yard waste pickup.

Retailers sell cheap yard waste bags (not unlike old grocery bags except they're multi-ply and stand 4 ft. tall). Leave them next to the curb and on three dates each spring and fall they'll be picked up. That makes it a PITA through the summer. You can either mulch leaves and stuff into the yard (which is encouraged) or you have to store the bags until the scheduled pickup dates.

Some bozos actually do the storing of bags at curbside as they fill them through the summer so by the time the fall pickup date rolls around they're a real eyesore.

  6. We have an attached garage which is next to one of the bedrooms, but we also have loud carbon monoxide alarms, which are required in all houses sold in Palm Springs.

I was surprised when I sold my house in CA to learn that you need smoke detectors IN EACH BEDROOM before you can even list. I was equally surprised to find my house in IL didn't have either smoke or CO2 detectors anywhere in the house (since rectified).

My Fusion is also so quiet I have to look at the dash to make sure it's off....I do a lot of walking in our neighborhood..no sidewalks..sometimes cars are approaching so quietly I am startled....my dogs know...

I remember reading in the early days of hybrids some manufacturers added noisemakers to them so they'd make SOME noise on the street.

  7. Hmmm, wondering how someone could abuse a poll feature.

It takes some energy. But post enough polls to force all active discussions to the third page and you've disrupted all discussion in the forum.

This is discouraged. Yes, it happened. Yes, we spent time we shouldn't need to spend deleting the mess.

    Thanks for asking.

  8. I'd do it as long as it was by request and the recipient went along with me during acquisition. THEY would have to pick the animal out. But if it's what they really wanted I wouldn't have any problem with the purchase (or, preferably, rescue).

  9. One was from Falcon Studios. It was a porn brochure. I wrote and got on their mailing list. They must share their mailing list because I started getting stuff from other companies. Quite alot.

I read an interview years ago where Chuck Holmes, founder of Falcon, said he realized early on there was money in porn but WAY MORE in mailing lists. So, share their mailing list? No. They were pioneers in SELLING their mailing list. ;)
