  1. I tried searching for a thread but couldn't find any answers.

If it is not possible to change my username here, does anyone know if it is possible to change usernames on rentmen? I made them more similar than I now want them to be. Thanks!

Click the "Report" link under your post, above, and make your request. An admin (the first to see it) will act on your request.

  2. In my neighborhood, there's an asian jogger who is INCREDIBLY ripped, narrow waist, broad shoulders. He always jogs shirtless, in spandex shorts. And I only see him in the dead of winter. I live across from a park. Apparently he runs down here, circles the park a few times, and then runs back to wherever he came from. Haven't seen him so far this year, but we also haven't had frigid weather yet.

I know cryo is a thing, and I respect practitioners. But I keep wanting to run out with a blanket to throw over his incredible shoulders.

  3. Ain't that the truth! Towards the end of my service, Diners won the contract for the Defence corporate card (so perhaps 100k cards on issue). To start with it was a nightmare but it seemed Diners used the fact that Defence personnel were using the card to encourage merchants to start accepting it.

And every once in a while their computers would fail to respond, invariably at the end of a long multi-city trip while I was standing in the lobby of a hotel trying to check in. I started carrying personal cards to cover, even carrying enough cash at all times for at least one night in a hotel.

  4. What sucks with Am Ex is that a lot of places don't accept it outside the US (hell a lot of US places don't accept it).

Oh, dude, try traveling on business when your corporate card is Diner's Club. It was a running joke within the company how often we'd find places that don't take it.

  5. Australia Post has a reputation for that for parcels (not specifically for 'signature required' deliveries). You'd hear nothing then find a card telling you to go to the post office. I had to sign for the delivery today, one of those annoying devices where you use your finger to sign and your signature looks like you were drunk.

UPS in the US is notorious for what we call "ring and run", where if you're not quick enough to the door you'll see the truck pulling away and a pick up notice left behind.

I've symied more than a few "ring and run" attempts just by being home during the day and seeing (or hearing, or the dog alerts me) when the truck pulls up. They seem generally flummoxed to actually have to make the delivery.

  6. I don't get stoned. (Drunk? Sure, but not stoned.)

My first try was in college. Bunch of us were out camping (and fooling around), and around the campfire someone lit up a joint and passed it around the circle. I took a hit, and immediately turned and puked my guts out all over the base of a tree. Imagine turning to the guy you just blew and telling him "that wasn't you" but knowing some of that tree was covered with some of him.

I took it as an omen and just never partook again.

  7. Wow, 1430 on Tuesday and my Amex card was just delivered by DHL courier (it's a premium one, so I guess that's part of what you're paying for). I had notified them in the small hours of Sunday morning.

A few years ago I needed a replacement card from Citibank. They were more than happy to FedEx it but they were ADAMANT that I needed to be home to sign for it. Repeated it over and over: YOU MUST BE HOME. ADAMANT!

So I stayed home for the day.

Late in the day I got notice that the card had been delivered but I hadn't heard from anyone, so I looked out back. FedEx had tossed it over the fence and moved on.

    So much for security!

  8. Sorry you had to go through that. When I was 16 or 17, the restaurant I work at was robbed at gunpoint. We were told to lie on the floor, and the guy said something about wanting everything. I held up my wallet. Being so young, the driver’s license was all I had to replace, but it wasn’t easy. When I went to the facility, they wanted ID. I got mad and said I don’t have any because I was robbed. She helped me out, and got me a new license.

Today, I keep cash hidden at home, and take cash when I travel that I lock in the room safe (easier than using safe deposit box at front desk). Have never had a loss. If credit cards are lost, can survive on cash, or room charges until replaced.

I always bring a weeks worth of extra meds, but that’s if I decide to detour or have stay longer. I learned that when I had to go out of state when my father had a stroke. Thought I would only be there a week, but ended up being two weeks longer. It pays to have a long standing relationship with your doctor. Called the office, explained what happened, gave them the number of the local pharmacy, had meds next day.

I don’t take car key fob when I fly (I cab to airport), but take extra key fob if I drive on a trip. I have couple of ways to get into my condo if house keys are lost.

This thread reminded me I need to make a copy of drivers license and passport.

Yep. 40 years ago my wallet was lost/stolen/lifted (you choose) on the DC metro.

When I got home, I remembered I'd had a blank check in the wallet so I called the bank and they recommended closing the account. "Just come in and we'll open another" they said, so I did that.

When I got there they asked to see ID. I reminded them mine had just been lost. They told me "you can just go up to DMV, it's only a few miles away". I asked how I should pay for it? Writing a check on the account they just closed? It was an entire cycle of "you can't get there from here".

These days I do keep a stash of cash, as others have suggested, and I have photocopies of front AND BACK of all cards in my wallet. The front has account numbers, but the back has the important numbers to call in an emergency.

    It's truly a nightmare.

  9. The same, of course, could be said of him. Either Crane did not know that the business he owns and operates was cheating or he did know and did nothing about it. Neither is good.

Most owners in MLB are only marginally, if at all, involved in baseball operations. (Well, except the Yankees.)

I know that with the Cubs, the owners have said their only role is writing checks.

  10. Since many denizens of this site are "of a certain age", we've probably outlived more than a few of them. As Charlie mentioned, the AIDS epidemic cut a wide swath through our community. Substance abuse and suicide have also taken a toll, not to mention cancers, traffic accidents. And a few got involved in rough situations.

I'm usually more surprised when I learn one of my formers is alive and healthy than learning they have passed.

I'm still in touch with many of them, and wish I was in touch with others. And then there are those where you just don't know. And that's how it's supposed to be.

  11. I've lived in the DC, NYC, Chicago and LA areas and rode public transit in all of them without incident. You do need to stay alert, AS YOU ALWAYS SHOULD in a city of any size, no matter where you are.

Heck, the small midwestern college town I live in now isn't a picnic if you're not paying attention. If you don't lock your car, it'll probably get rummaged through. If you don't lock your bike, it'll probably disappear.

    That's just modern life.

  12. A guy I used to see/pay in Chicago started calling me when he was just horny and wanted to get laid.

One time I said "I only have $100 in my pocket" and next thing I knew he was at my door. We reached an agreement after that. When I called him, I was paying. When he called me, I wasn't.

He called me often. Little dude self-identified as a straight womanizer but loved having a dick shoved up his ass. Go figure.

  13. One of the things true about the internet since it started was the best source of information about the internet came from the internet.

BUT .... I have always been of the opinion that any code examples that lack implementation instructions are basically useless. That said, there can be common assumptions that are uncommon to YOU (or ME) because you have not encountered them before.

These days, a script example in simple HTML would be pretty outdated. So much of the internet these days is either "active content" (can you see my eyes roll?) or scripted. But if you've got a link to something you'd like to use, someone may be willing to look at it and offer pointers.

  14. I haven't done HTML in long enough I had to look up FOOTER. (It was new to HTML5, so I wouldn't use it for a required element of a page).

Back when, we'd put Javascript function definitions in HEADER and call the functions in BODY. (In this case, probably make the call early so the page hasn't rendered yet.)

But PLEASE don't take my advise! As I said, my HTML institutional memory pre-dates current HTML, and I prefer doing layout work in CSS anyway.

  15. Is it that small, or have people's partner counts gone up now that fear of HIV is greatly reduced, and condomless sex is the norm rather than the exception? I have at least one friend, a young guy, who goes to bookstores to suck multiple cocks EVERY DAY at lunch, and know several others who rack up similar numbers of partners. Most gay people I know either have very few partners or very very many, which given latency periods and some people being asymptomatic, is going to lead to a blowup in non-HIV STD rates.

^The above isn't meant as moral judgment, just that as behavior has changed, results are changing.

Behavior actually hasn't changed all that much. It's just reverted to what it always has been. I knew guys in the 70's who hit the boothstores and bathouses daily to suck as many cocks as they could.

But we have seen upswings in syphilis in recent years. It can actually be spread by oral sex. Who wears a condom for a blowjob? (Ironically, condoms were invented to help stem the spread of syphilis.)

It's a good idea to remember that there is no such thing as SAFE sex. You can have SAFER sex, but it's up to you to partake. Up to YOU, not your partner(s).

  16. Getting propositioned by guys at my day jobs was one of the ways I felt welcomed and encouraged to give escorting a try. Feeling noticed and desired felt good. I figured if the offer is good, why not let someone enjoy me, my looks and body in full. If the guy seemed like a good trustworthy guy, then it seemed only fair to be negotiable and arrange a fun win-win for all. I’ve met at least a dozen guys this way. Never know when a diamond in the rough could be a bonafide new whore in the making lol ?

Oh, honey, you come over here and sit next me. We'll figure out what comes next.

  17. OK, so I know this may border on the TMI side of things, but occasionally when I bottom and the top is really going at it, it feels like I have pockets of air in my gut. Every powerful thrust feels like knives running through me. Does anyone else experience this? If so, any remedies or suggestions as to why it happens? Sorry for the graphic imagery this may have brought to mind :).

If you are not enjoying what is happening you MUST stop it. It's not just about enjoyment, it's about your health.

Be open (ummm.....) about your feelings. When you communicate with your partner you might be surprised how much everything improves.
