Cruise lines operate with staggering fixed costs and thin profit margins. Most lines just break even with the passenger fare & rely on additional spending (drinks, shore excursions, spa, etc.) to make a profit. I shiver to think of the losses that mass cancellations will cause.

My three regulars don’t advertise. One did for two days before I grabbed him. The second ran an ad a few years ago and the third ran one for a few months in 2016

OMG, that is the cutest little creature I have ever seen!

I saw a feature about miniature ponies trained as guide animals. Miniature ponies can do everything a seeing-eye dog can do. They're about the size of a Lab or golden retriever, two of the most common breeds for guide dogs. Miniature ponies are house-trained and don't need horseshoes, regular sneakers will do.

The big advantage of miniature ponies is that they live for ~25 years whereas Labs or goldens only 10 or so. Since the time & cost of training a guide animal is substantial, the longevity of miniature ponies is a huge plus.

It's been a while since I watched the show, but my old flatmate used to make fun of me for watching "Quantum Leap." She said that the only reason I watched it was hunky Scott Bakula took his shirt off in every episode. When I insisted it was a good show, she shot me an "oh, come on" look. OK, yeah, guilty as charged.

I was there about three weeks ago when I was visiting Atlanta. Went on a Thursday and Friday night. Probably not as good as it was several years ago, but definitely some good looking guys. And, nice being able to see them totally naked up on stage before you decide if you want to take them into the VIP area. I would still recommend it.

According to the largest survey of millionaires ever conducted:

"The overwhelming majority (79%) of millionaires in the U.S. did not receive any inheritance at all from their parents or other family members. While one in five millionaires (21%) received some inheritance, only 3% received an inheritance of $1 million or more."

"In fact, the majority of millionaires didn’t even grow up around a lot of money. According to the survey, eight out of 10 millionaires come from families at or below middle-income level. Only 2% of millionaires surveyed said they came from an upper-income family."

As much as I don't want this thread thrown into P&R, I couldn't let RealAvalon's assertion go unchallenged.

Back on topic, congratulations @Kevin Slater! If you do get any marriage proposals, two words of advice:
    "Pre" and "Nup"

I agree with everything you said. Prop 13 causes plenty of other problems, like inadequate local funding for schools because of "artificially" low property taxes. Unfortunately, the beneficiaries of Prop 13 would rip their own gonads out before allowing Prop 13 to be overturned.

I think it depends on your concept of a serving. If you're looking for a light snack, then one sleeve is a serving. But if you're thinking more of a meal, then the whole box.

Three cookies is a proper serving? Pffft, not even for the mice in my old NYC apartment.

I’ve now thought up of a great counter measure (In my lovely hot shower in my suite). Picture showing hotel room/apartment number with door cracked open. There’s no way a picture this specific could be online. Think of it as the OUTCALL INSURANCE on par with the 3 Fingered selfie!!!

As always, very good advice from Benjamin Nicholas. Aside from avoiding financial ruin, I would avoid the bloodsuckers because there's gotta be something seriously wrong with them. Maybe they're way too desperate, or way too selfish, or way too narcissistic, or way too ... whatever the hell it is, best to stay as far away from them as possible. It sounds like you're happy with a few of your regulars, so good for you.

If someone makes you feel like that's not enough, they can ceremoniously go fuck themselves

The one thing you never want to get wrapped up in is becoming the '$30k millionaire.' That's the quickest way to debt and getting yourself into a whole heap of financial trouble. I see it on a regular basis in Dallas, where people try very, very hard to seem important.

Eventually, their rented Range Rovers are repossessed, their leased apartments evicted and their short run in the social circles of Dallas over.

Rule of thumb: Don't be Dallas

My father committed suicide when I was 11. He was a workaholic battling a debilitating illness with no cure and I’m sure the thought of consuming the resources of our family for his care in addition to the hopelessness of his situation coupled with anxiety and depression created the perfect storm.

I will never forget that day as long as I live. I remember holding him and begging him to come back. Just 11, I didn’t fully comprehend what had happened. It changed me forever; even decades later it still haunts, shapes, and this may be strange to say, blesses me. (Yes, I have found ways to use the experience for good.)

I have also had a paternal uncle and paternal first cousin make the same choice. Plus countless friends, extended family members, and more.

Every circumstance is different, but the impact of this kind of loss is best understood by those who experience it as well. So, for what it’s worth, I offer my prayers as you sort life and learn to navigate this life following this trauma. I am not seeking to insert myself into your specific situation, however, when someone loses a father to suicide, especially where illness was involved and there are some similar circumstances, I try to always extend an offer of a listening ear or willingness to answer questions about my situation privately. That certainly holds in this case, but as someone else suggested, a professional might be better. Still, I found professionals didn’t sometimes fully understand, though they tried sincerely to do so.

(EDIT: I should also add that I’ve followed this thread since it’s beginning without commenting. Mainly because I didn’t know if I wanted this detail of myself on the forum and the risks of revealing something that personal in this format. Something about this post by @RyanChambers and his circumstances compelled me to say something. Maybe it helps him or perhaps someone in some way.)

The rule is for banks to report deposits or withdraws of $10,000 or more. It does not apply to transactions between people or companies. Easy to get around by making multiple deposits or withdraws over several days.

Cash, escort money can be “laundered” with enough planning and thought. For example: buy a fixer-upper house legitimately; fix it up over a year by paying cash for materials and labor; then “flip” the house which is now more valuable due to the fix-up. Report the “profit” as a capital gain at a lower tax rate than regular income. (The house could even be rented for a few years). Reporting a gain on a real estate transaction does not raise red flags with the IRS.

Lansky invented “money laundering” for the Mafia. They had casinos, movie theaters, laundries and other businesses where illegally earned money could be reported and become legitimate.

This is why there have been proposals by economists and government officials to eliminate all cash from the economy and have all payments done electronically. (The real big part of the underground economy is illegal drugs which is in the billions per year). This is why large denominated bills were eliminated over $100: to make very large transactions physically difficult and bulky.
