attention Angeleno realtors!!......wondering if anybody can tell the story behind this place......assessed value skyrocketed in the last year, yet the property looks worse than ever, including one apparently torn down structure and another tired 50s-era place needing roof repairs and featuring an empty pool....it sold a year ago for one-third its current asking price.....I realize the value is only in the land (three acres) and view, but wondering if there's some story.......despite the potential, still a pretty optimistic asking price, it seems

 

is it only because two parcels were combined into one property??

No story that I'm aware of...except 3 acres, view, two properties on a private knoll in Brentwood?...location location location.

The interiors are gimmicky (e.g. the silly candy store) and cheaply done compared to the best houses in Bel Air/Beverly Hills and Silicon Valley.

property taxes alone are $1.3M!!!

One reason for the price drop: Originally, the multi-car garage was filled with expensive sports cars, limos, classic cars, etc., that were part of the deal. Those got removed, so the price went down.

 

And, in reality, it is not the most expensive house on the U.S. market. The article ends with the statement you could never have a bad day in this house. I am envisioning only one of the rest rooms is empty and you do not know which one when the cramps start.

the photos are, of course, highly staged and posed......warm up that sterile kitchen with some spilled Cheerios on the counter and some dishes waiting to be washed sitting in the sink, that bedroom with an unmade bed and underwear/clothes strewn about the floor, that living room with newspapers scattered about, and that pool area with some flipflops, wet deck, a noodle or three, and some dog pooh waiting to be picked up.....and it may look a little more real!

If you hate Frank Lloyd Wright, and want to reconsider, come to Chicago for the Robie house, and to Oak Park to see his Home and Studio, and many of his works (ca. 1900).

 

I was fortunate enough to grow up about three blocks from this "monstrosity", so I'm a tad biased:
