For those that remember him or those who want to find out who he is, there's an interesting exhibit of his photos and artwork at the Leslie/Lohman gay art gallery in SoHo.

Also a film "That Man Peter Berlin" playing at the Cinema Village which I'm planning on seeing this week with Cooper. Lucky saw this film and liked it and that's good enough for me.

As a sidenote, if you can pick up a copy of "Next" Magazine, the January 20th issue, there's a small photo of Peter Berlin, how he looks today. It's on page 80 at the top of the page.

Peter Berlin was(is?)a real "Sexual Outlaw"He worshiped at the alter of Eros.

I remember shoping at the Safeway on Market in San Francisco once when the cops came in and hauled Peter away for indecent exposure.

He did have clothes on-kind of.His outfit was ballet tights with nothing but a cockring underneath and a leather jacket with no shirt.

Very hot guy-but this was 20 years or so ago.

Nice to know he is still around.

I forgot to mention, most of the photos and artwork, which was priced in the $400 to several thousand dollar range was marked sold. He still has his fans but you might prefer to remember him the way he was 20 years ago which was very, very hot.

I saw him once at the Pines on Fire Island and almost fell over. He was on the deck of a beach house, at dawn, engaged with another guy and it was hotter than any porn film I've ever seen.

I use to own a shop on Polk Street in the 70's. Treat of the day was when Peter would walk down the street in his standard dress-which is what caught him out in the previously mentioned episode. He was a star. Remember this was the early 70's. Actually, I wish some of the current diva's had the pizazz Peter did.

And, Deej, fair dinkum, considering the lifestyle in SFO back then, it is a miracle that he is still alive-me too. Cheers!

IMHO..He definitely is an ICON to some of those of HIS generation! But in 20 years there will be ICON'S from THIS generation also.

I am sure he also realizes just how much Luck played into his still being around, to be called an ICON over 20 years later.

BUT I personally don't think I would want to know what he looked like now.

Guess I am just someone who suffers from the "Marilyn Syndrome"!

Somehow I missed the Peter Berlin fanfare when he was in his prime, so I was not prepared for how beautiful he appeared in all those photos when I saw the documentary. The combination of raw eroticism and ethereal aestheticism in his presentation of himself as an object is fascinating.

Just came across a current photo of Peter Berlin. Thought y'all might like to see how the years have been to him.

In his prime:

These days, Peter Berlin lives in a small, light-filled apartment off Market Street, alone with his three cats and hundreds of pictures of him.

Interesting - does anyone know how old he is now? Just curious.

Somehow I get the feeling he is a very lonely man - I hope I'm wrong.

He's 63 and lives in San Francisco. I usually don't give my sources ;-), but there's a good article that goes along with the picture I posted. Here's part of the story:

...Berlin might be grateful for love and recognition, but he rejects the idea that he's a totem of gay culture. "I don't buy any label of straight or gay. I don't function well in a group or within the setting of an audience. I'm a very solitary person. People tell me I'm this sort of icon for some people, and they hang me on the wall next to Marilyn Monroe. And who do I have hanging on the wall?" He gazes around the room. And from around the room, hundreds of Peter Berlins gaze back.
