Living in NYC metro area I am accustomed to paying $150-$180 for a quality massage from a physically fit masseur, although I prefer to keep the price-point to $160. If I enjoy the service of $180 provider, I ask for a break for repeat massages and never have I found someone refuse.

Agree with you all on where the rate should be -- but also I notice what seems like really unusual business decisions to hike rates when their business just has to be challenging right now. What's with this?

So, I am puzzled by aggressive price increases by some masseurs. Some admittedly hot guys are charging $200 an hour for nude massage with touching allowed. Sorry, my psychological limit is still $160, which was until recently and hopefully still largely is a standard. In bad economic times, you’d expect rates to come down, not go up.

 

Of course, every masseur is free to set his own rate, but there are good and there are dumb business decisions. Thoughts & experiences?

For me I mostly seek therapeutic. I won't lie release (for me self) at the end is great (I mean come on we are guys)

 

Having said that I like to stay in the 120-140 range tops.

 

Ive found that the higher after that the less of a real massage it tends to be (not always).

 

Guys that charge more typically get that because they are from a city where they can (i.e NYC) or offer many ammenaties (which they typically can't do when traveling but still charge those high rates IMHO

Nothing, really. I just want the $160 an hour massage as described. But if he tries to charge $200 for it, which is what some masseurs are trying, I am out. I usually go for 90 minutes, so anything up to $240 is fine and I will leave a tip if the experience is good, but that's it. Gotta draw the line somewhere. ;-)

I wonder if it's my sample size, but I've noticed that fair few masseurs who haven't changed their prices for years. Yet it seems that newer entrants are the ones pushing up their prices or entering at the top end of the market. Here in DC, Paul is an old favorite who charges $100 for 60 minutes or even Eli in New York seems to have charged $170 for years (maybe this went up from $160 a few years ago).

Eli has been charging 170 for many years. He does DEEP tissue Sports massage and I happily pay him that. He KNOWS what he is doing and I ALWAYS feel great after my sessions with him. I just noticed he is charging 160/60 now. I will still pay him 170. Not easy to find someone who advertises something and can actually delivers!!

I hardly ever hire for erotic or sensual massage. It drives the rate up and I'm not that into HE's. If I'm going to have erotic contact a masseur - I want him out of clothes and fucking on the table. You don't pay for that - it just happens if there's a good chemistry between you and the masseur. I always book therapeutic, while being open for more. If it just turns out just therapeutic, well. then I've at least had a good massage.

It seems unrealistic to expect massage rates to remain constant. I‘m not thrilled by rising rates, but if the market allows it, then it makes sense for providers to take advantage of the market, especially in places like NYC and SF where many providers—regardless of temporary rent decreases—are still facing precarious financial circumstances. Perhaps rates will drop again if enough clients stop hiring more expensive providers, but even that is hard to predict.

 

And to be clear, I’m not trying to attack or offend anyone. I’m just thinking out loud about the volatile, unpredictable market conditions we’re all facing as M4M massage clients in certain cities.

Chicago is a painful topic as most of my favorites (Nikola, David, Brad) have left town and/or stopped doing business.

 

I see similar pricing dynamics around here as well. You can get a good massage from a hot hunk willing to do it naked and be gently touched for under $160 an hour:

I charge $140 for an hour session and $200 for 90 min. After sessions I’ve had clients say that I should charge more...and I don’t disagree ?, but I look at it like this: those are my rates, but they can give me more if they think I should have more. I’ve had clients give me triple my rate. I like keeping the rates fair and comfortable.
